Is it safe to do this on Steam?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just wondering has anyone ran into this problem before? I've never actually had problems using prepaid visa cards to purchase my steam games, so bear with me.

So I registered a card, and tried a million times to use my card and Steam keeps declining my credit card info. I have more than enough money to buy the games I want, so there really is not reason why it shouldn't work. Well, what I did was I made an alternative account and bought one of the games I was planning on getting by sending it as a gift to my main account using the same credit card info. Will I get banned for doing this? And has anyone ran into this problem where Steam just won't take your credit card info and do you know how to fix it?

Keep in mind that I've already contacted Visa customer support. They said that the card was already registered and the problem was on Steam's end. I've used the same cards for six months or so now and I've never had this problem.

I just don't want anything bad to happen. I'm still fairly new to this after all. Hear me out. :(

I truly dont see the problem with it, gifting games is fine, regardless or who its to or from, so long as they have received money in exchange for the game, nothing "bad" has happened. I wouldn't worry.

Okay well that's good. I have 2 other games pending as we speak. Have you ran into this problem though where Steam just won't take your credit card info? Like on your main account? It's 2 prepaid cards that aren't working by the way. Is there anyway I can reset my billing info, or do anything that will fix the problem for that matter?

Steam is temperamental on perpaid cards, sometimes they work sometimes they don't. My advice would be to transfer your prepaid's money to a paypal account and purchase your games from there.

Prepaid cards are crap. Get a debit card/credit card or something, just be smart with it.

Oh, I don't know see if your parents will let you use theirs. Just pay them up front.

You can use them in other places. Just go buy retail games, I guess. Try Amazon.com. They have great deals too.

Also, try contacting steam and asking if they accept your card type.

I know that they work since I've used prepaid Visas all the time for the past few months and everytime I've used them they've worked.

i've had the same problem. the issue is is that steam sometimes routes your transaction through overseas servers, so their servers don't get bogged down. so, they are trying to charge your card from a server in Europe, and the prepaid gift cards only work in the US. the only way around this is using the card through paypal, although i haven't tried it myself.

You can also try buying games on either Impulse ( similar to steam also includes a client ) or D2D. I found prepaid cards on those 2 DD services work fine and both sites have some great sales quite frequent as well

Make sure the home adress you registered on the card is the same you entered on steam.

Don't worry, I've got no problems in that area.
