Now i know that Valve don't like people selling accounts but is there any security risk to myself if i sell it? I have changed my personal info with that account so that nothing about myself is on there and it has forgotten my card details. So is there anything else that iam unaware of?

unless you are selling to person that you already know, you will face a scammer, who will demand to know the id and password, and never send you the payment.

there are too many scammers...they know that Valve won't do anything even if they steal your account because it was you who broke the EULA in the first place.

Ebay wont allow you to sell Steam accounts because its digital property. Some people can get around it by selling say, a letter with the info conveniently contained inside and what they are purchasing is actually the letter but ... ebay has been known to shut that down too. Same reason you cant sell MMO accounts or items on ebay.

Buying used hard copies is equally stupid imo. Making and acquiring backups of games is something your average pc gamer can do. The only thing of value is the original cd-key, which the original owner will still have, even if he sells (aka shares) it with you.

There is another thing to this: If the account is discovered to have been sold/purchased then Steam can (and has no compunctions about) ban it - locking the 'purchaser' from all of the games in it.

What's your point? Are you inferring that reselling your games is the same as making illegal copies of your games? Anyway, the difficulty of reselling his games prove digital business sucks.

Not true, I bought a Steam account from some random dude off the internet. Didn't get scammed or banned. Maybe I was just lucky.

No, I'm inferring that buying used games from someone is a dumb idea.

Well how could valve know you bought an account from somewhere, as far as they know you could have just moved house therefore your IP address has changed permanently.

No, his point is that used games that somehow bind to digital data like a cdkey or an account is equally stupid.

Also, from the developer/publisher's viewpoint, yes, it is the same.

Steam account purchases happen a lot. I don't believe Valve really make that big off deal out of it, like you said he could've just moved etc. I believe the problems start when you start selling the same account for the second, third or fourth time.

At anytime they can ask for the card information linked to a sale, and if you cant provide it you will not be able to play anything linked to the card in question.

not 100% true. If i used my parents CC for a purchase, then moved, meaning the CC details aren't readily available to me, then Steam cannot do a thing.

I'm not encouraging you but if you're going to sell your Steam account, sell it to people you know in real life. That way you'd less likely get scammed.

I'd be careful buying a Steam account like that. What's to stop the seller from sending Valve an email a week later saying that their account was hacked? They'll have the cd-keys and credit card info to get the account back. I guess the same thing could technically happen with an MMO account too.

Hmm, wooooode is right, at least if they really do that. If you were to pay with another card they could see that the names are completely different. I guess you could just say well my buddy wanted to by me a game for my birthday...

The thing is, if Steam chooses to ban the account for whatever reason, you or the buyer won't stand a chance of getting it back. That's the big problem.

Any game you "buy" off of steam you do not own. Essentially you are renting the game for the lifespan of steam.

I realize that, but I am sure if Steam were to close, they will unlock the games - at least I hope they would. That would be the ethical thing to do; if even they are not legally obligated because of some lame clause in the EULA.

as unethical as it may be, Valve was smart enough to create a legal document that they know NO ONE EVER READS (well.. some of us know the basics atleast) They can do whatever the hell they want, and get away with it, no matter how immoral it actually is. This is the benefits of legal documents.

Well i dont think it is safe if you had a credit card stored on the account because that may be retrievable. You can either just sell it and change your credit card number to be safe or not sell it at all.

Actually, the majority of EULA's state that you dont own the game. It's not steam, it's every publisher in the industry.

and they will find out if you sold it how?

plus what do they care, once they sold it... not their problem if it gets banned.

That brings up another point, more and more games are going with online activations tied to an account... so even if its a hard copy, you'll still need access to that account.
