To me there isnt much of a difference. I think most of the graphics power goes to stuff I dont see when playing on max settings. Thats why im sticking to a mid end pc. Gt 545 is more than enough for me to enjoy games.

Just looking at bf3, it looks good on low settings. So anything more than low settings might be just wasting gpu power.

It depends on the game. BF3 doesn't look any different to me from Medium to Ultra, whereas Crysis for example looks VERY different from Low to Very High.

In a pc game there is a massive difference. In a console port multiplat usually not. Look at games like Crysis, FEAR, Half Life 2, Doom 3. All former graphics kings designed ground up for the pc.

I can almost always notice the difference, but some games there is just slight changes which don't really matter.

The only time you're wasting GPU power is when you aren't using it lol. Yea, I see a huge difference between low and high in most games.

BF3 is a bad example considering this game was built to run well, and great-looking on all settings. High is basically Ultra. And I suspect Low is not much different from medium. Never played it on low or medium in BF3 but that would be my guess. I can play at Ultra or High on BF3, and I can't really tell the difference at all. And considering, I'm playing the multiplayer in which you're always in motion, you can't tell the difference from High and Ultra. The game was built to run on high, for optimal performance, without sacrificing visuals. Less stuttering on high. With the majority of games, there's a big difference.

OP has realised GTX 555 won't max new games and is now trying to justify getting the x51?

I say BF3 is a bad example because most of the settings don't even look that much different. You can really see the different between low and very high settings in Crysis/Starcraft 2 though.

There's a massive difference between the lowest and highest settings in any game.

Yep, thats why for Crysis 2 multiplayer I put everything on low since I don't see a difference and my performance gets raped.

But it also depends on the game cause in Crysis low settings can make the games environment look friendly, while max settings is more serious

It was before I started running two GTX 590s in Quad SLi. My days of framerate loss and loading screens are long gone.

Have you noticed micro stuttering since you went sli? Only downside to sli I think.

BF3 is fairly unique in that low looks great. Designed so you can't set everything to low and see people in the bushes. Some other games look pretty good on low as well. But I'd always try to get the highest playable settings.

If a developer is worth their salt the game will scale well enough that there will be a difference between lowest and highest.

Depends on what graphical features the engine's using for that game. I put BF3 on high because ultra has minimal increase in quality and a noticable decrease in performance.

Depends on the game. Usually competitive multiplayer games don't really have a large varation in the graphics because they need to keep it a level playing field. Playing a game like Oblivion on low settings is worlds different than playing it on high settings,

Idk. Turning BF3 to all low setting with everything off is quite different than playing on Ultra.
