Ya. I mostly have my consol for exclusives and racing games. I really cant play a racing game on teh pc but i really hate fps's on console. And imo competion on teh console will never be the same as competition on the pc. Console gamers will never understand
we dont really have any exclusive games anymore tho is what i hate... fc2.. yay for pc gaming.. um yeah on consoles too.. fallout.. consoles.. the only game i can say notible on pc only is hl2 expansions.. css, dods.. all the hl games i guess.. we have wow , diablo and starcraft.. so blizz is with us.. but beyond that?
yes i do think games r bttr on pc, thats why i play on pc.. but when it comes to what we get exclusively? its kinda sad :(
I kind of have that question. To me i dont see a noticeable incerease. It seems like the people that are playing one game are also playing the others. Are the new games bringing in new players to a pc. I know that a pc is hard for some people to play games in and with the short release of pc exculsives i dont really see if officialy growing anytime soon. This really dissapoints me because i would hate to see pc gaming start to slope downwards. What is everyones opinion on this?deathshand707
No is not shrinking in fact all reports indicate that is rising. But you are correct about new players not coming to PC. Also the fact is that console gaming is growing faster than pc gaming ( thats not always correct since there are years pc gaming is growing faster than console gaming ). Also when it comes to exclusive games i have to disagree with you since Pcis getting the most exclusive games. But the thing with exclusive games on PC is that is getting exclusives only in 2,3 genres ( strategy, mmorpg and some simulation games).Â

This is a rediculous comment. Pc gaming has whole genres of exclusives. If you want to play a strategy game you are playing it on a pc. If you want to play an mmo you are almost certainly playing it on a pc. Pc gaming is full of exclusives including the best selling game of all time (The Sims 2) and the most revenue of all time (WOW).Â
The amount of ignorance being posted is astounding. PC gaming is growing, rather rapidly. Multiple sources like DFC and PCGA have reported that PC gaming is growing and by a significant amount each year. I believe DFC has given actual numbers but I can't recall them right now. Maybe someone has the links readily available and can post them.mudman91878
That is, casual PC gaming. You expect that hardcore PC gaming (which requires quite an upfront cost) is growing?
I doubt it. It's probably stagnant.

Where do you think "hardcore PC gamers" came from in the first place? We didn't pop out of nowhere, you know.
Casual gamers have a chance, no matter how small, of becoming "hardcore gamers" over time. If the casual market does well, then it's going to benefit the hardcore market. Unless the rate of "harcore gamers" leaving is equal to or greater than the rate of such people entering - and is there any reason to conclude that that's actually happening?
PC gaming is growing both in profits and in games. Game-wise, well, we're getting more console ports than ever (series like Devil May Cry and Street Fighter are only now starting to get ported), we still have a ton of quality exclusives and indie gaming is booming. The very fact that we have some truly amazing games being released that are made by only one or two guys (stuff like World of Goo and Aquaria) shows me that PC gaming is never going to "die".
It is growing just not in the way we want it.
Is it me or does pc gaming, not feel correct has a rather different feel about it that feels unnatual or are devs getting lazy i think they are where are these very pc frendily games games that made the pc great yes it is growing but we don't want peggle we want well nice stuff with more depth than console games like they used to.

STALKER, Supreme Commander, X3, King's Bounty, etc. :|
Yeah, a lot of games are dumbed down and newbified, but faily deep quality games are still very easy to find.Â
Are all of you HIGH???
PC Games are in a period of change, but they aren't shrinking; they're growing. Go look around. Below is an exerpt, just showing that online gaming alone is growing.
At GC in Leipzig, the PC Gaming Alliance releases its "Horizons" report
-PC gaming was a $10.7 billion industry in 2007
-Previous reports show that $8.3 billion comes from non-casual games
-Therefore, casual games is a $2.4 billion market
-Only 30% of sales come from retail
-$2 billion from digital distribution (Steam? Who knows if Valve even released their numbers)
-$4.8 billion from online gaming (WoW, other MMOs) - previous evidence shows WoW at $1.1 billion.
"Our analysis clearly shows incredible growth in online PC gaming, proof that this industry is far stronger than anyone has reported," said Stude. "Today's consumers shop where they live - online."

Add Guild Wars and its offspring to the list of exclusives, also a good share of strategy games ala Galactic Civilizations II.
Still, though best played on PC the list is indeed shrinking.
pc gaming is growing.
in my country most of people that i know play pc game. no console.
there's no one play 360.
the reason is simple. live isn't available in my country.
the awful detail is that....because people in my country usaully don't buy the geniune game, but the faked!!!!

I popped out of nowhere. I started off pretty hardcore. I become more and more of a casual game each year. I have been gaming for 20 years and its getting to be pretty casual nowadays.Edit: Wow these new forums are great, I didn't underline any of this.

First off don't rag on console games be make yourself into an a**. I used to play CS (before 1.6) hardcore. I mean all the time. I got home from school and played for hours. Then i stopped to go to consoles (Halo got me). During and after that switch i see the same amount and same type of competition. But just like CS, not everyone is trying to be competitive (depending on servers).
2nd off i mainly said this because i am tired of hearing sh** thrown at console gamers because they own a console and not a pc... It is fu***** retarded.
And by the way i am now a mix in gaming. I recently got a new PC so i have bought some games for it (their cheaper than their 360 counter-parts ... and mods!). So i doplay CS:S and DoD:S quite a bit, but i also play CoD4 on 360 a lot too. I play the same way in all my games so right there is some competition just like the PC.

he says it all. PC Gaming is growing; otherwise, why would Blizzard and Valve still exist? It might be growing MORE in the MMO market than in the shooter/rpg/racing markets, but those too are growing pretty well. And, many heads of developers and publishers would agree to this. Why would GS run Hardware Performance guides and (usually) treat the PC pretty well? Why do they continue to make games for the PC? Why did Microsoft make Games For Windows Live?
*sigh* we're about to enter a huge system war right here. I do enjoy certain consoles (not all, and I don't own any) and I won't say a word against them; the games are generally very fun (not counting Wii Shovelware, and MOST Wii games) and I have to say that a gamepad can't be beat when it comes to fighters or racing games. However, besides that, I won't say a word FOR consoles. Good luck getting every1 else to do taht.
Â
The PC gaming industry is growing, but much of that growth is probably coming from MMORPG's and "casual" game. That having been said, the rapidly falling prices of hardware and the global rise of broadband internet connections may help out the PC. I think that, for the forseeable future, consoles will have higher overall sales figures (at least in the US), but developers would be foolish to simply neglect the rather large PC gaming community.Â
Shrinking rapidly. If it bottoms out I will find a new hobby...no big deal. Maybe I will have a better social life. Console gaming is not an option for me, I wouldn't be caught dead playing one of those things. I'm 37 and too old to own one as far as I'm concerned.claytoma
