Never played it but does it have sniper rifles in it? Can a person just use sniper rifles?

There are some close encounters in the game so I don't think you could use the sniper rifles exclusively. However, there are plenty of opportunities to use the sniper rifle outdoors and stuff. I had trouble finding ammo but then again, I didn't look that much for it.

I don't remember any super zoom in scopes, like in some shooters. But it does have good use of iron sights

Yea, but to my knowledge there are only like three genuine sniper-like rifles...there is a silenced rifle, the SVD Dragunov, and then a rail gun thingy.

Theyre fun, but ultimately take up too much space and there isnt enough ammo. Also, from my experience, you dont get them until the last quarter of the game. I kept looking for sniper rifles early game (my favorite combo in shooters is a shotty, pistol, and sniper rifle) but there were none.

Fortunately the assault rifles get scope attachments that do a decent job out to a few hundred yards.

It's not a very good sniper game since you always miss.

It's an awesome sniper game. Realistic feedback and very precise. After you get the silenced Vintar you can pretty much play the rest of the game with it without using other weapons. Just gotta invest in ammo.

Just gotta get halfway through the game - but until then youll have fun with automatic weapons.

The upgraded Vintar in the game is one of my all-time favorite fps weapons, along with some from BF2142 and HL2. Although STALKER is ebtter than either of those games.

When it comes to shooting in STALKER you really can't go wrong. Sniping is excellent in that game and very useful because alot of the time enemies will stay in cover and just gun you down if you try to charge them. Other times if youaren't paying attentionyou'll get flanked. The sniper rifle and even just a scope on an automatic rifle are very important to have.Getting headshots with them is very satisfying as well.

You get x4 scoped assault riffles at first half of game, and x8 sniper semi automatic rifle at start of another half, and pure x8 sniper rifle near the end. When i got semi-automatic Vintar, i never dropped it, and it also combine well and share ammo with Thunder ( good close range assault rifle). Pure sniper rifles used basically by snipers on towers, and have not much use in game due to heavy recoil and slow reload time, or useful for hunting monsters in Zone , like in-game description say. It is powerful indeed, cause it can kill from one shot. But Vintar can it too with headshot. So, snipe with Vintar and have fun !

You don't get your sniper riffle until your 3/4 through the game usually. You can use an Ak-74 with a 4x scope, thats the closest thing for most of the game atleast for me .

i remember getting a scope shortly after the town area with the arena (don't recall the name, i'd estimate it's 1/3 in), from there on in i sniped near enough exclusively from then on - there's a few close quarters encounters (mostly indoors), but besides those, you can snipe all the way

stalker works as a sniper game, i don't know i'd say it works well - but it sure works... the biggest problem with the game is that the crosshair has a tendency to skip pixels instead of scrolling smoothly, so precision aiming, even with a scope, can sometimes be extremely awkward as in, you can shoot 1mm to the left of his head, or 1mm to the right of his head, but for some reason you can't line your scope upwith his head - fpsrpg? piffle and sugarsticks, i say!

it may be done in the name of realism (because shooting stuff at distance is not exactly easy irl), but if so, it's a computer game contrivance that is more frustrating than realistic, and removing that feature would probably improve the game

and the ai has that annoying ai tendency to know where you are, even if you're sitting in thick grass... it's not like you can really pick enemies off one at a time, all stealthy like

but that said, the game does give you some pretty open areas and you can snipe most fights - in fact, you'll probably find you snipe nearly exclusively if you tend to play on harder difficulties, it's the only way to stay alive

anyway, all said, stalker works as a sniper game... just not too well - but the game is dirt cheap in uk right now, i bet you could pick it up for like ten bucks... even if it's not so hot a sniper game, s.t.a.l.k.e.r is definitely worth playing
