I'm looking for a fun game to play on my new comptuter and it seems stalker is the only one close to what i want...I read the review and it kind of sounds like it isnt a true shooter...more of an rpg that you shoot instead of slash...i often get bored with rpgs becase its just pointless quest after quest but i like shooters like halo or battlefield where you just shoot and progress...should i give stalker a try and is there a demo of the game anywhere?

I liked it. But STALKER isnt Serious Sam or even HL2 action packed. Its not as slow as some of the Ghost Recon games, but its by no means a typical action shooter. Its a bit inbetween the two. You cant rush in because its pretty easy to die (until end game) but you still have to fight a lot of enemies.

Judging by the games you said you like I would suggest waiting a little longer for The New Half Life, but if you can not wait S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a decent alternative. The action can be fast paced at times but is nowhere close to as fast as Halo or HL. GL on making your decision. +)

All critic and player reviews and ratings here.

I liked it more than HL2 or FEAR (opinions split on that, beware), just not like my favorite San Andreas, decent game. GTA just doesn't come out every year or even two. I hate playing this rare because of disappointment in games.:)

I kinda like da game, its impressive they put quite alot of offort into it, theres a lot of action and it can get just a little bit scary at some points but FEAR is way better with more action and scary scenes/parts

it has a lot of action but it's quest based and there are long treks, I don't think you'd enjoy it based on your post though.

No just no you will not like it, the game is not like an rpg just the inventory scheme is (imo) but the game is all about quest grinding so i would definitly not recommend it for you.

In the beginning, you'll find little "action" such as explosions, and rapid fire weapons. But as you get farther in the game, weapons will increae in range, accuracy, and firepower making the game much more fun to play when anhilating your opponents with a scoped rifle.

OOh, its definately an action packed shooter. And it is DEFINATELY not an RPG. The only similiar things close to an RPG are the various upgrades and the inventory system, and of course the really cool NPC interaction. But thats it!

Reasons you might like it
-Enemies respawn; after you clear an area, its only a matter of time before more baddies populate it. So, you can keep going back and back again to kill people. Need more ammo? Go kill people for it, screw buying it!
-Awesome guns; the majority of the guns are really cool, though they take a while to get used to. Never did an official count, but there are enough to keep any gun nut happy. Pistols (which dont suck...that bad), submachine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, RPGs, and even a rail gun.
-Good plot...for an FPS
-NPC interaction
-Awesome environment
-Cool badguys

Reasons you might not like it:
-Open-ended gameplay: unlike FEAR or some other typical (but good) FPS, STALKER is a game based on exploring and doing stuff at your leisure. This is good, but it also means you do a lot of walking. Even worse, you do a lot of walking without getting into big fights with people. Its never boring, but it almost is quite frequently.
-Short, once you realize the side missions are nothing but filler.

I like STALKER because its a great shooter and it actually brings something new to the table (ie the open-endedness). It has a great selection of guns with which you can use against a great selection of bad guys, ranging from your windbreaker-clad bandit to an invisible tentacle-mouthed mutant. And, best of all, there are enough random encounters that turn into cinematic firefights, and they can be really tough. I remember during the early game I was in a 20 minute battle just to kill like 6 military soldiers. In a game like FEAR or Halflife 2, a fight like that would take 30 seconds. STALKER is great, just BE PATIENT WITH IT!
