agreed the 8600 gt will be more than enough at 1280x1024
The fact that i'm gonna play at 1280x1024 is because almost all 19" monitors don't admit more resolution...and do you know if there's a big difference betweeen 8600 gt and gts?? because the price difference is 70 bucks

The only difference is the gts has memory thats a little better,
With a little work the GT pretty much overclocks into the GTS.

But overclocking a videocard have risks?? should I put more ventilation??...how many??
I dont think there are many risk in this situation, the gts is basically a overclocked gt, Either do it yourself or pay them to do it for you.
And you dont have to overclock it. if you dont want to.
The 8600 GT and 8600 GTS has almost not difference, but if you buy the 8800 GTS it has a big difference.
The 8800 GTS eats the 8600 GT/GTS for breakfast.
wklzip
the 8800 is twice as fast, but twice the price. mice, lice, ice, rice, dice, etc...
[QUOTE="zemus66"][QUOTE="9mmSpliff"]Whats your price range? el_carl
like $200 for the videocard and $1150 for all the computer
With $200, get a radeon x1950xtSo DX 10 isn't as important? I'm not a FPS games fan and I don't buy a lot of games....for the future only starcraft 2 is on my plans...so should I stay with DX9???

I guess thats up to you.
that card is a failure its onyl slightly faster than a 7600gt.ForlornHope
you heard wrong good sir it is even with the 7900 gs in almost every game

uh no the cheapest 8600gts is the entry level dx10 card for the masses and I heard its clocks are only slighty above a 7600gt :S weird.

[QUOTE="ZBoater"]Get the fastest card you can afford. You won't regret it. :DX360PS3AMD05Exactly.
yeah cool, but the problem is that I just have $200 for the videocard...no more than that.....so the question is: high-end DX9 card or middle-level DX card?? it's important to say that I don't play FPS, my type of games are oblivion, overlord, neverwinter nights, WoW, battle for middle earth, starcraft II, etc

Starcraft 2 probably won't be put until dx 10.1 or dx11. But, dx10 won't be very mainstream for a while. Some people say the end of the year, but I say next spring/summer (of course,I've been wrong before). I would just buy the x1950xt. It is plenty fast and the isn't a dx10 card that comes close to competing against it in its price range.Exactly.[QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"][QUOTE="ZBoater"]Get the fastest card you can afford. High End DX9, X1950XT.Well it seems like the 8600's are better at games that use allot of shaders, and it seems like most new games will be that way, and it plays older games at a decent enough frame rate. so i dont know. i like it. for now.
I guess its up to the thread creator. You could get a 8600 gts for about $180 or a x1950xt for about $180.Well it seems like the 8600's are better at games that use allot of shaders, and it seems like most new games will be that way,

well, the problem with the x1950xt is that it requires a powerful (and more expensive) power supply, isn't it? zemus66Yeah, I just thought about that. Do you know your psu's (power supply) specs? More specifically, the how many watts and amps on the 12 volt rail? It should be on the side of your psu on a sticker.

I'm gonna buy and entire new pc...how many watts should it have if i buy a x1950XT....because another alternative is the x1950 pro,, wich is also an awersome videocard and requires less power..

Youre always full of something Forlorn. It beats the 7600gt and loses to the 7900gs. Its around the performance of a 7800gt.

450 Watt power supply, 30 Amps on 12 volt rail. >_> That thing is a power hog. Also if you plan on keeping this card for a while with Dx10 and Shader model 4.0 there's a chance that some newer game's might not run at all on dx9 cards.Random__Guy
that wont be going on for the longest time. CoD2 and CSS engine can all run in Dx7 and Dx8. Theyres ways tostrip down games too. For instance Doom3 running on SLI VooDoo cards.
They wouldn't alienate most PC gamers by making them upgrade to SM4.0.X360PS3AMD05
They did with oblivion and SM3.0

Oblivion runs on x800 cards. Its the Unreal 3 engine that requires SM3.0 and thats cause SM3.0 had been around for a while now. Thats only 1 gaming engine too.
Crysis will be SM2.0 compliant.

It was SM3.0 requirement to play R6V, GRAW2 and SCDA. I dont know if that was just Ubisoft doing that, but I couldnt see them hurting sales like that. So I think its a requirement of the Unreal 3 engine to have SM3.0 cards. Remember Unreal 3 engine is an nvidia favorite, so what has nvidia been doing for 3yrs now? SM3.0

I downloaded GRAW 2 while I was waiting for my new graphics card. And it runs on my x200 intergrated card. Now, it doesn't run great... acctually it runs about 10-15 fps on the lowest settings, but my point is it runs and supports SM2.0[QUOTE="9mmSpliff"][QUOTE="Random__Guy"][QUOTE="9mmSpliff"][QUOTE="Random__Guy"][QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"]They wouldn't alienate most PC gamers by making them upgrade to SM4.0.el_carl

Thats it, your going to jail.
I wonder if you take every DX9 game and try to play them with a DX8 Video card How many would work?????Random__GuyHmmm.... well dx8 is pretty much dead with hardcore/mainstream pc gamers, so I doubt anyone will acctually try any tests. Although it would be interesting.
