The only real achievement this generation (nvidias 8 and 9 and 2xx and ATIs 2xxx,3xxx and 4xxx) was 8800GTX. Serious performance gain over last generation unlike 9 generation or even worse 280GTX.
8800GT is just good card for cheap money that's that. It's not like it's great it still has heat issues a tiny bit less dramatic than ATis 4850 but the ati card is already problem solved.
If 8800GT would be the first card after the nvidia 7 generation cards for the money it would be perfect. But a year after 8800GTX... i dunno

dont talk bout the 8800 GTX, talk about the ULTRA, whe it came out, most ppl thought that it was just some overclocking that asnt worth it, 2 years later, everyone was wrong, even tho its as expensive as it was back then, its still one of the top cards out there, the only thing that beats 3 ultras is 3 GTX 280's and quad sli 9800 GX2's, that only shows their raw power, dont forget it took a card with 2 gpu's in them to beat the ultra, n most (me included) still think its bulletproof
how awesome wold it be if nvidia made a G92 8800 ultra? 384 bit, higher clocks due to smaller die, and less heat, and a low price, what could beat that?
8800GT and 4850 performance is really close except on a few (based on gamespot benchmarks). My guess is neither was overclock and that the 8800GT has a higher overclocking potential. Plus you can get the GT for $129, which is almost half the 4850. So it's not the new 8800GT because it costs more for little performance increase. The 8800GT was and still is the best price/performance card I've seen.
I've read a bit about the 4850 hitting 83c on default clocks so I doubt it's overclocking potential can even compete with the 8800GT.

cuz the hd4850 fan stuck at 20% which its the same thing happend with 8800gt and also 9800gtx.

Selective reading much? I don't trust Gamespot for hardware reviews, look to Anandtech, Bit-tech, Extremetech, Tweaktown, Legitreviews, or any other number of sites for more accurate reviews. Also take note of DirectX 10 performance - the HD4k series really shines there, and outpaces even the 9800GTX most of the time.
As for heat, do you not remember the 8800GT launch? Or did you just conveniently leave that out?

Easy fix for that, just make a custom profile in the catalyst control panel and you can manually set the fan speed to what ever you want. I set mine to 40% on my 4870 and it dropped the temps about 28ºC. Set the fan any higher though and you've got a hair dryer in your pc:(

And the 8800gt wasn't released during the summer, if it did the temps would be even higher. And there's already an xml mod that lowers the temp to 45 C for the hd4850. Plus IIRC due to short supply at launch the 8800gt was around 250$ (i may be wrong here), when you can already see prices of 150$ (BestBuy) or 165$ (Asus on newegg) for the HD4850.
