Is there a game/mmo out there with good RvR/open world pvp?

I've done WAR in the past and have a max level toon (Engineer, got tired of getting pwned and the renown grind though) and it was okay. But is there anything else out there that maybe has a higher population?

I've kinda looked at DaoC lately, but I've been trying to look at the realm war updates on their website and it looks like there's like 50 people playing the game.

WoW doesn't have open world pvp, and neither does rift. Not interested in grinding out meaningless battlegrounds.

Kinda at a loss, as far as I can tell there's really nothing out there with any decent population to make the RvR fun :/

Not sure what you mean for open world PVP. WoW has it, you just need to be in pvp servers. Roll a rogue and gank in captial cities :P. Unless you are looking for a more "official" world pvp.. .I don't know. Eve online seems to have the best system, however not everyone is into space.

No, WoW's open world pvp is completely dead. Everyone's always on a flying mount now so there's no way to gank people even if you wanted to. Ideally I guess I should say I'm looking for an objective based open world pvp game.

Ah, well I was in a high pop server and it was always happening on the realm Arthas. I wouldn't know any obj world pvp game. I'm looking for one myself..

Uhh... How is Tol Barad and formerly Wintergrasp not objective based world PVP? I'm pretty sure (99.9%) that those are pretty much the definition of objective-based world pvp. Not to mention that there are many other objective-based world pvp that goes on all the time that you don't queue for. Just thought I'd point that out.

And as to the statement that "world PVP is dead". Couldn't disagree more. Me and 9 guildies went into Stormwind and racked up 2500 honor kills for the guild. So if anything is dead, it's a %@#% ton of alliance, not world PVP.

^ My 2 cents.

Rift open world pvp is pretty fun. After fighting a few rifts with some people we decided on a whim to attack the other factions town, it was a lot of fun!

Thats not world based pvp. Thats practically a battleground within a realm. World pvp is the excitement of anything happening or anything goes, constantly changing the world to the players will. World pvp is waht you said.. going into stormwind and starting a fight. Its the randomness and making it personal of it that makes it so darn worth it.

EvE Online has probably the best MMO PvP. Whether you like small skirmish's,one on one fights, large fights or massive fleet battles it has it all.

Bitter sweet news I'm afraid that style of MMORPG is long gone.

Dark age of Camelot gives me memories of RvR glory. It's just behind the times and hardcore players stay with it since nothing else comes close. Warhammer didn't cut it for me, I do miss my DaoC though what an amazing mmo experience. It's the only game where I made permanant online friends and memorable enemies, that doesn't happen in WoW with all the instant instancing/cross realm how sad.

Rift reminds me so much of World of Warcraft. Anyone here invest a good amount of time on Rift yet? What did you think?

I'm currently addicted to Darkfall Online. It is the most hardcore pvp game out there. The best way to describe it is the skill system is like Ultima Online, the combat is kinda like Mount and Blade and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Also, it is one of the few full loot pvp games out there. Anyone can loot anyone. It also has objective-based pvp. You can siege and take cities from other guilds and alliances.

I don't have population numbers, but I can tell you that there are enough people to easily get into fights on a daily basis.

Some say the grind makes this game like a Korean grinder. Well, they made huge strides to reduce the grind. With the most recent patch, you can gain stats offline. The stat grind was said to be the worst part of it.

Ive just hit level 44. It is very similar to WoW, but thats not really a bad thing to be honest. The fastest mounts are 110% ground speed, the quests are fun and linked around a surprisingly involve narrative, the Dungeons (at least the ones I have cleared) are all of high quality. The open world PvP is also thriving. The only downside to this is that SCUM are active on my server, getting ganked every now and again is cause for frustration.

I agree, however I haven't had to much experience with ganking yet. It's not to terrible on the server I'm playing on. PVP battles after rifts close are so much fun!

While Wintergrasp and Tol Barad may be pretty lame, emphasis on the TB part of that, they ARE world pvp. You are fighting real players from your realm over definite control of areas of the WORLD. That is the definition of world PVP. Whether you queue for them or not, they are objective based world pvp. Sorry.

How is ganking bad? I think its a very good game mechanic although it would be nicer if you lost most/all your items you were carrying as well..It is always hilarious to gank someone in EvE and collect there tears of rage afterwards :).
