You can always ask for your neighbors WEP key...

Other than that you have to buy it.

You went through 5 routers already? What are you doing to them? I've had my D-Link for over 2 years now.

You can ask your ISP. When you're getting internet for the first time an ISP usually includes a router in the package.

If you/bittorent opens too many connections at the same time, the router "dies", which is easilly resolved by resetting it. There are a few good routers out there that support many open connections at the same time. I believe tomshardware or anandtech did a review of a few once.

If your router really is dying (does it smell like burned electronics?) they are overheating and I would think you'd have another problem then just Bittorent.

I forgot: it is likelly you can tweak the connection settings (nr of half open connections, connections oppened per second, max number of connections etc) in Bittorent to prevent a router from jamming, and you should tweak those of Windows XP as well (if you have it). For Vista, I wouldn't know. It has advanced TCP autotunig which you can disable, but I dunno if you should (need to read up on my Vista skills)....

i actually reset my router many time before they were broken. it start out first with a couple reset button then many weeks later they all dead. no wireless signal lights is on nor the internet light. so far i been through d-link, netgear, syslink, and many more etc. all of them turn out to be dead . FYI, all my router are brought brand new. none are used.

You're either lying or doing something really wrong. BT isn't going to brick a router.. it can clog it with traffic, but not permanently break it. Have you had you're electrical outlet checked.. that would be a more likely cause. As for a 'free' router, why don't you contact ANY of the manufacturers of your broken routers and try to RMA it?

there is no purpose for me to lie on an internet forum. and there is no benefit for me to do so. I had going through many routers and all of them seem to be half ass broken or 100%. i also used the right electrical appliance for each router. the routers seem to be going smoothly until i start using torrent.

Home user routers aren't meant to have commercial amounts of traffic and you CAN fry them by pushing too many connections at once. If you are torrenting that hard (I'm assuming your internet connection is monsterous too) you need a commercial grade router and unfortunately that's going to cost you.
