Well the 280 is more on par with the 4890, not 4870.

well dont focus on the pins...you can buy extras. if your supply is less than 600w, i dont reccomend it it probably takes 400-500 on its own, never mind, mboard, cpu ram etc. id get another power supply, or get a more "power efficient" card. my 8800gt takes like, 350.

The performance between the 4890 and GTX 280 is somewhat close (GTX 280 still wins), but that doesn't justify the $70 price difference. I would go with the 4890.

ANOTHER GOOD OPTION IS THE GTX275. IT HAS ABOUT THE SAME PRICE AND IT IS ALMOST AS FAST AS THE 4890. GTX280 AND GTX285 ARE NOT WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY.

THE XFX4870 1GB WILL WORK FINE WITH YOUR PSU AS IT NEEDS 2X6-PINS AND THE PSU HAVE THEM.IF YOU WANT BFG GTX 280 OC YOU SHOULD FIND A PSU THAT GIVES THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF AMPERES IN THE 12 V RAIL.YOUR PSU GIVES 18 A IN EACH 12V IN A COMBINED AMOUNT OF 36 A IN THE 12V.FOR THE GTX280 IS RECOMMENDED 42 A MINIMUM.

I hate when people think a card takes like 300watts. a card takes like 70-100, max. (http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/7972-evga-geforce-gtx-280-1gb-superclocked-review-19.html). look for some whole system benchmarks, and you'll find that a full i7 system takes like 400w at peak. Your psu is fine.
