hey guys!

i went to the local computer store, and i am looking for a desktop that:

plays Modern Warfare 3 on decent graphics

plays starcraft 2 on decent graphics

the computer that the employee referred to me is this:

intel core i7 processor 2600 (3.4GHz)

8GB DDR3- 1333 RAM

1.5TB 7,200 RPM serial ATA HD

AMD RADEON HD 6770 (1GB Video)

this was for the price of 900 dollars

im pretty lacking in knowledge on computers

1. is that a good buildup for my goals? (play sc2 and MW3 on decent graphics)

if so is it a fair price at 900? if its overkill im willing to buy something cheaper

thanks!

its decent deal considering it comes with windows 7......make sure to ask what the power supply is. Im not too sure you could get a better deal if you built this pc.

Go with a PC with an i5 2500 CPU and atleast a 560 Ti/6950 GPU.

The current PC has a terrible combination of CPU and GPU for gaming.

That CPU sucks.

The original PC you have listed needs just one modification. Downgrade the CPU to 2500 and upgrade the GPU to 6950.

Your an idiot for saying the FX 6100 cpu sucks it does just fine for gaming..... A FX 6100 with a GTX 560 will cream an i7 2600k with a 6770, the Pc he posted is a prebuilt and I dont think he wants to build his own so that $800 prebuilt is the better option.

The $800 Prebuilt is your best bet.

You can configure your own PC at ibuypower.

Go to custom configurator select intel system, then select Z68 system. Then change the CPU to i5-2500k, change the GPU to 2GB GTX 560, change the PSU to 650W corsair and bam you have your PC for $925. Much much better than the $800 one.

The problem is that I found an intel system for $930 on newegg and the TC said it was too much so which means he only has $900 to spend max. And I would go through newegg over ibuypower for returns any day, the $800 system will do just fine.

They use expensive casing in the base model I didnt realise that. My selecting the cheapest casing which is still an antec one you get 2500k with 2GB 560 and 8GB Ram for $900. The casing and power supply is better than the $800 PC so you arent just paying for the CPU.

thanks for the discussion guys.

sooo basically one gentleman is saying for the 800 build the GPU is a waste of money when i could buy something much better for a similar price?

for the part in discussion, will it do just fine with most games without causing problems?

If the TC can set it up on ibuypower and buy it then go for it, but if not the $800 setup will do just fine.

No gambler is an straight up intel fanboy and thinks of AMD cpu's as garbage when if fact they are just fine and do the job. But if you can find / select a prebuilt with an intel cpu with a good gpu within your budget go for it. But that $800 pc will do the job you want it too.

The $800 has a much better GPU which will allow better perforamance, graphics, resolutions, and graphic settings compared to the other.

It IS a generation better. Now while the wii vs PS3 might be a bit too extreme example but he doesnt know much about computers and would understand it best that way.

COD both will max easily.

SC2 the intel will give you a noticeable edge, you will get slowdowns with the $800 system.

guys just judging on the reviews.. it seems that a lot of people have problems or have to retweak the desktop when they first get it. that could pose a problem as i do not have the proper knowledge to know what to fix, and it would piss off the person payin for the comp if it didnt work. how common are problems when you receive computers from online ordering?

Awful as in awful decision since he can afford intel system.

your fanboy side is showing.

No I completely agree with gambler on this one. All you AMD fanboys need to stf.. I would take the computer he linked in the first post over the fx-4100 any day of the week. Only reason to recommend AMD is if his budget is so low that he cant even be flexible. to the OP, the bottom line is the first pc you picked has a MUCH stronger cpu than the second pc that was shown to you. The i7 is about 2 times faster than the bulldozer. Also the 6770 while not the greatest graphics card will be enough to play any game you like out there on at least high settings at 1080p resoultion. A graphics card update 2 years down the line is much easier and less painful in the wallet than a cpu upgrade. Lets just leave it at that.

No I completely agree with gambler on this one. All you AMD fanboys need to stf.. I would take the computer he linked in the first post over the fx-4100 any day of the week. Only reason to recommend AMD is if his budget is low.

Please....... re read before posting

And you would be an idiot for doing so, FX 6100 GTX 560> i7 2600K 6770... the TC isnt tech savy what if you wont upgrade? which one would you pick then? , general rule of thumb is get a better gpu over beter cpu for gaming... In most games that are graphics prone and use quads + there is only very small differences in performance between C2Q, Phenom 2, Bulldozer or icore cpu's. the only games that see any real difference are ones that are single threaded or only use two cores thats only when icore's raw processing power over comes poor coding. Even then its not like you wont get good performance nor not play games smoothly in not getting an intel cpu. You really need to stop with the fanboy crap because your one.

If you can setup the intel system within your budget go for it. The i5 2400 or 2500 or the 2500k.

Select Azza triton case
