depends on the resolution of your monitor. if you are playing on 1280x1024 then you will be fine. the only thing that is too much would be your ram, unless you really need 4gb you wont need that much for gaming.

As long as you play at 1280x1024,you should get high settings no problem.

you'll do fine with that rig for a while. at least today :] who knows about these things anymore when new stuff is coming out every month or two. there are these rumours about a 1 teraflop card coming out from NVIDIA, but we'll see. and we'll see if there are even games coming out in near (or further) future that's even gonna need one.

yea your right about them lasting 2 gens untill it becomes unplayable but people these days want to see amazing graphics and stuff. i think it depends on the person unplayble to one person might mean below20 fps to another it could mean below 10 fps, it depends on you whether you dont mind have a choppy framerate.

There is really no futureproof in GPU business, new and more powerful GPU's come out in less than a year, you are futureproof if you dont mind playing on medium settings, but I doubt any GPU right now can last you two years on max.

Agreed. As of now, that card is "futureproof". However, once Nvidia's/ATI's next line of cards are released, it will be time for an upgrade.

There is no 6800GTX,but there IS a 6800 Ultra, but there is NO WAY a 6800 Ultra can get high in oblivion, you practically need a 8600 or 8800 or a X1950XT to get high in that game.

A high-end card like a 8800 can max out games for at least 1 or 2 years easily. You don't have to upgrade just because a new generation of card comes out. No game is out yet that can bring a 8800 to its knees (except if you use rediculously high AA and AF settings at very high resolutions).

Moreover, a 320MB 8800GTS is only a few frames behind (if any)the 640MB version in resolutions like 1600*1200 or higher.

Technically 8800 could max out games in 2 years if the stupid devs took time to optimize the games a lil more just like they do on ps3 or xbox360, but there is no way a 880GTS can max out games 2 years from now, first of all it cant even max out some games today, Dirt, CoH, just a few of top of my head, you can max them out but your framerates arent there

Yes. You are good to go for at least 1 year and half. Even if you would play at 1600x1200.

A 8800GTS can last you 3 years on medium if your not too picky about maxing out every single game.
