I have a company (GIM computers in Atlanta-anyone know anything about them?) that offered to build me a i7 920, gtx 295 for $1700 (including Vista home premium, 32 bit installation and all driver uploads). Can you please tell me if this is a good build-I'm trying to keep it cheap, but don't trust even cheaper ibuypower. I'm willing to make a couple changes if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, but need to stay around this price. I WILL NOT BUILD MY OWN!

It is in cheap steel box with fan, rather than aluminum--I am hoping there won't be overheating problems with this. Will it? Please advise.

Here's the quote:

LGA1366 with Intel X58 chipset motherboard

Intel Core i7 920 retail box w/fan

Corsair 3GB DDR3 1333FSB memmory (3x1GB)

Seagate 500GB 32M buffer 7200RPM SATA2 3G ( or WD 500GB 16M buffer 7200RPM SATA2 3G)

22X DVDRW -/+ & dual layer

NVIDIA 295 1789MB GDDR3 PCI-Express card

( You will need a TRUE wattage power supply with at least 12V / 22A to run this video card, NOT cheap power supply. Also, don't be fool by the watts as well. The lease expansive power supply will do 12V/22A is $135.99, not including the chassis. ) Enermax Liberty ELT-620AWT ATX power supply plus Inwin C589T case only ( took out the power supply and install this Liberty power supply.)

Assemly ( all parts purchased @ GIM)

System warranty: limited one year parts & labor ( all parts purchased @ GIM)

well, the gtx 295 is a much superior graphics card (I believe with my limited knowledge), and takes up the bulk of the cost--a dell with that card would cost well over 2000 dollars.

any other thoughts?

You may want to choose a better case... why put $1500+ worth of equipment and software into some piece of junk? And I suggest going with 6GB of that DDR3...

The GTX 295 cost nearly $350 more than your GPU... so since his entire build is only $200 more than yours... I would say that it is your setup that is overpriced...

Looks good except the suggestion to go with 6gb of ram instead of your 3gb, if you go with more then 3gb you will have to go with vista 64bit since 32 bit does not recognize over 4gb counting your gpu ram

I am looking at an i7 920 2.66,

6gb Corsair Dominator 1600mhz,

GTX285(or a 4870),

EVGA 132-BL,

KB/M,

320gb hdd,

Corsair 750watt PSU, burner, and a $40 case for $1300. I can probably get a monitor for like $150..you guys think I could find something cheaper?

No, $1300 seems to be the price for such quality parts.

"I WILL NOT BUILD MY OWN!" I stopped reading here. Good luck, and enjoy your over priced, under supported, cheaply built rig.

I fell that too Munkyman587 i would helped him make the best pc else selecting all part from newegg.com and he would have a pc that run smooth for the money worth I have nothing i can do from now on unless i can find a Pre-build pc that is 200-300$ Less rip off then dell.com / alienware Which is rather hard
there is none pre-build that i know that is nice to worth is money

you see pre-build always bad product they give you second quality product all the time such as
OCZ Copper 3x1GB : 1066mhz 9-9-9-19 when for same money you get G-skill 3x2GB 1600mhz 8-8-8-24
And they give you 4850 when you can get 4870x2 / 295GTx for same money
they give you an Hard drive 500GB when you can get 1.5TB / 1.0TB With better Load speed Such as seagate 7200:12 / Samsung Spinpoint F1TB
They Give you a 500wats psu when you get a 1000-1200wats for same money :P

They Give you a Cheap Airflow Based Case That Even Lowest Gamut Computer case Raid-X at 29,99$ Would outperform in 70% of the case :D Even tough id Suggest something as 40-70$ case : NZXT / Cooler master / Antec / Thermaltake / Lian Li

All what i said is True Iv Being Building PC for user for few Year Since my Emachine H2604 in 2003 I resigned into pre-build PC
They where all unstable even after clean install there nothing more pure and working then ur own build :D

If you want to make ur own just give a budget ? We put part. and ur get ur own pc that work for Longtime
Because ul save so much money that ul even be able to buy something to cool ur cpu as Core i7 920 With the best cooler on market
Thermalright 120 Extreme / Cooler master V8 : with that ur cpu will durate Longtime : it will be cold and ul be able to overclock at huge gaps

guys, can someone just please help me improve this build that I noted above? I'm sorry that I have no technical expertise or time to build my own, so I thought at least this company in atlanta near my home could custom build one.

Can someone please just tell me if there is a better motherboard, harddrive or whatever that I can ask this company to use - that still won't be much more expensive? i know the i7 920 and gtx card are VERY high quality, so just wanted to make sure the surrounding parts are good enough for a great gaming machine. also will i have an overheating problem with this build and what should i get instead if so (is the steel case with fan a bad idea, or ok? do I need to go aluminum?)

thanks

I do not know much about the intel motherboards so I cannot comment on that aspect of your build, but I would get a case that has more then one fan as the exhaust only, I would look for a case that at least has one intake in the front and one exhaust fan in the rear of the case, plus you can get a case without a power supply since your not using the standard one anyways.. The hard drive, DVD burner and Memory all look good except maybe use 2x2 gig on your memory, incase you ever improve your OS it will utilize it

No time to build your own? You will have time to game with that GTX 295 (whatever else will you use it for?), so why not convert a fraction of that time in saving a few hundred dollars?

"Can you please tell me if this is a good build-I'm trying to keep it CHEAP " and " 1700 bucks " After reading those 2 quotes in the OPs starting comments, the first thing that sprung to my mind was : " What a rip-off " and " Those two comments do not belong in the same sentence" Good luck with that, if you just want to "burn" your money, just use a match.... BTW, it sounds like the OP has it all figured out anyways. Why does he need further "validation" from us here that he is buying what he thinks is a "great" system? Its your money man, spend it how you like

Agreed 100% on that comment.

If you like it, go for it. You can always upgrade it whenever anyway.

ok, you guys have made me reconsider. I assumed that was actually a very good price for the system quoted to me (the gtx 295 is $500, so it's bound to be an expensive system i thought)

Marcpro, you mentioned that you could tell me the parts for a very good gtx295, i7 920 system that is cheaper than what I was given. Can you please provide me the links to the parts in newegg and the overall cost (or whatever way you want to do it)? Or anyone else who wants to chime in.

Perhaps I should consider building myself as you all say if it's a big difference in price-I'm just afraid that if there are problems while I'm building it, I may get stuck and frustrated. But perhaps I should try anyway. Thanks.

As long as you take your time and read the directions carefully you shouldnt have any trouble at all and it will be alot cheaper to build your own computer, for the price they are quoting you, you can upgrade many things and still stay within the budget. I just finished my 3rd build and if I price it out at a computer shop or online for someone else to build it for me it came in around $2,300 and I spent about $1,200 on everything to build it myself and used all high quality parts....

I am VERY interested in realmcomputers, good price for great comp. However, it say the i7 is SOLD OUT. Do you think I can still buy it this weekend? Is the $1700.00 price the full price, or does the deep discount this weekend mean it will be a lot less? Does the 1700.00 include postage and handling, and tax?

can you tell me anything else about the company? have you heard many others have good experiences? any complaints?

I tried to reach them by phone and it said that no one was available tonight , even though they say they have open hours until 10 PM. They have strange hours on saturday, I believe they said they are open from 4-10 on saturday--do you think I can contact them earlier? Very anxious bc this seems like a great deal. thanks

actually i went to look at those "realm computers" and, In my honest opinion, they look too good to be true... They're usually 200$ cheaper than what they are when buying the parts separately and it's hard for me to believe that.

Yea Realm Computers is excellent in what they do. They bend their backs to try and help you. Send them an email though. I mean just trying to buy a core i7 3.2 ghz from alienware costs $1500 just for the processor. Alienware makes $500 off each computer just for the cpu. Realm is a pretty recent company though and im not sure if they signed up for the bbb. But I got my computer from them and now can max out crysis at very high 1080p easily. they cover my overclocked cpu at 3.6 ghz also so if anything happens to it then they will replace it.

and yea the price includes shipping and handling and everything else.

And btw thats why they are called specials. They might not make profit but their regular prices make a little bit of money for them. When their computers go on sale though they are gone in a hurry. Not sure if any more will come.

stormfuzz
It's still too shady for my liking, they're website looks like something made on freewebs and it doesn't look too professional at all. Even if they come with the right intentions, they're presentation still needs to be improved if they want to attract customers. And at least sign up as a a REAL company.

I was having sort of family Gathering Sort of Family party :D now i'm back everyone tired :P

how ever the only thing i did not approve on Mr_noname111 is the case Antec 300 to cool a such beast ? id pick at last CM 690 for around same price 70-80$ or NXZT Guardian in other scenario or Antec 900 for some fanatic of antec tough i say CM 690 is much better for airflow :

and if you want a case even better and more space a case that you won't change in the next 5-7 year : Cooler master HAF 932 150$

marcthpro,

I'm sorry that I don't have instant messanger. You can email me at palmwhite@yahoo.com. Please send to palmer.white@cancer.org as well, because messages sometimes appear to be spam in yahoo. I would really appreciate your help.

If you can build me a computer, please send me how much it will cost, and which parts you would include while staying within my budget (and cost of postage and handling and tax-I live in Atlanta, Georgia). Also, if you can tell me some of your background in building and selling computers, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

In atlanta in Georgia it sure they must be a PC hardware store that will handle to make ur pc once you select all part piece by piece on newegg.com
i can do you the build for ur budget you just put Fine amount a Good Core i7 920 + 295GTX is hardly under 1500$ you put a Limit il make you a build

then once you got part ship to you'r home which mostly half of the part are free shipping And no tax since u ain't in california :
then once you got the part you just go to some pc local store in Atlanta they must be Few That Is in that domain or Tech support computer Locals Who Does Build PC

Overclock is mostly done at home with A good Cpu cooler as Far I know it not that hard
https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?BundleExist=N&ID=10572506&ChangeQty=0
HEre an Enthusiast Build it only Require a Good Cpu Cooler but I hessiate if you should buy a Cooler master V8 Since they don't offer
The Great Thermalright 120 Extreme / True On newegg.com

A did re-edit the build as i just found a Great Bargain deal in 3x2GB 1600mhz with at last 8-8-8-24 it appear it say 130$ ? damn that a nice price
else would made you go with that ram :D
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231238 (8-8-8-21 1600mhz 3x2gb G-skill pi black)

Also Il show you a Benchmark That Show Difference of GPU (Video card)
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2009/02/23/sapphire-ati-radeon-hd-4870-1gb-toxic/3
resolution go from 168x1050 to 2560x1600 If in future you want a monitor such as 1920x1200 they are not too expensive :P and would run great on a solution like you wanted or run great on a HDTV 1080P

Make it 6GB DDR3-1333, 640GB Western Digital raid 0, and Vista 64 (if it isn't already), and now we're talkin' true high end :)

I always recommend building your own rig with parts from newegg or who ever you choose. If you are set on buying a pre built I recommend www.cyberpowerpc.com . The price for a pre built is actually not too much more then buying your own parts.

yes it about high expensive ness cheesie253 you are wrong for quality of hardware on cyberpowerPC.com but it better then most of concurent that and ava direct you still get rip off for quality part they ain't magic

you see cheesie253 you seen my build on newegg.com wishlsit compare it to this one okay ?
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Infinity_GTX/ : 1770$ Vs 1650$ : Quality of hard ware : 2x superrior
why ? superrior : 295GTX & Core i7 920 + 3x2GB 1600mhz 8-8-8-24 is better then any 6GB (2GBx3) PC1333 DDR3 PC3 10666 Triple Channel Memory
in any benchy if i'm right

psu they give ? only 800 wats. Budget Brand CyberPowerPC XF800S Performance ATX 2.0 Power - Quad SLI Ready
what did even put ? 750wats PC&cooling Silencers a one that can fit Two 295GTX + Core i7 975 at even @ 5.2ghz ;)
but for that money he would be able to get a 1000W From Corsair Modular Series the HX1000 If he wanted to spend more ;)

how ever the Case is as good as HAF 932 :P

marcpro,

YOU ARE THE MAN!!! THANKS!!! Should I worry about the fact that the gtx 950 doesn't have dx11 capability (or does it?)? How long would I have to wait to get a dx11 graphics card? You're awesome!

Please go back and read what I said again. I know that buying the parts yourself and building it yourself will be a better deal. I have been builing my own rigs since the pentium 133 days and sli voodoo 2 dedicated 3d cards. I was simply saying that if he insists on buying a prebuilt that cyberpower is a great deal. If you go in customize your own setup with the parts you want they dont hit you with the extra $1200+ up charge out of no where like alienware or digital storm would. (digital storm btw builds amazing rigs, top notch overclocking and quality, albeit the do charge a premium) Go ahead and compare yourself. Make a build list on newegg.com that mirrors exactly what you get with a cyberpower and you will see they dont charge a great deal more.

Core i7 920, asus p6t deluxe, 6gb corsair 1333, evga gtx 295, thermaltake toughpower 1200w psu, cm cosmos s case, wd 1 tb hd.

newegg price- $1950 plus shipping if applicable

cybrpower price- $1885 plus shipping if applicable

With cyberpower you have a built computer sent to youplus a keyboard and mouse for $65less than neweggsprice. Same parts assembled, less money. I just proved myself wrong. Point being cyberpowerpc is a great place to look for a pre built. Id still buy my parts seperate and put together myself over saving ~ $60.

cheesie,

I would absolutely use cyberpower, but I have read a few horror stories about having to return computers, poor packaging, very bad customer service on resellerratings.com and their own forum. What are your thoughts on that and have you heard from others who have had good experiences??

If I knew I would receive the comp, open the box and immediately start playing games I would certainly go with Cyberpower. Just a bit wary (although heard great things about digitalstorm as you say, but too expensive) thanks
