Is this i7 920, gtx 295 build good? Your advice please!!

I have a company (GIM computers in Atlanta-anyone know anything about them?) that offered to build me a i7 920, gtx 295 for $1700 (including Vista home premium, 32 bit installation and all driver uploads). Can you please tell me if this is a good build-I'm trying to keep it cheap, but don't trust even cheaper ibuypower. I'm willing to make a couple changes if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, but need to stay around this price. I WILL NOT BUILD MY OWN!

It is in cheap steel box with fan, rather than aluminum--I am hoping there won't be overheating problems with this. Will it? Please advise.

well, the gtx 295 is a much superior graphics card (I believe with my limited knowledge), and takes up the bulk of the cost--a dell with that card would cost well over 2000 dollars.

any other thoughts?

dell is a rip off gtx 295 way better than your 4850 andyou dont get crappy cooler or services from dell and the gtx 295 build is probably cheaper than your dell

not bad but the dell xps studio i just ordered come with i7 920 6 gigs ddr3 ram radeon 4850 640 gb hardrive vista home premium 64 bit and a 20 inch widescreen for 1500 so that is overpriced.. why not buy a dell Snake_raider

guys, can someone just please help me improve this build that I noted above? I'm sorry that I have no technical expertise or time to build my own, so I thought at least this company in atlanta near my home could custom build one.

Can someone please just tell me if there is a better motherboard, harddrive or whatever that I can ask this company to use - that still won't be much more expensive? i know the i7 920 and gtx card are VERY high quality, so just wanted to make sure the surrounding parts are good enough for a great gaming machine. also will i have an overheating problem with this build and what should i get instead if so (is the steel case with fan a bad idea, or ok? do I need to go aluminum?)

No time to build your own? You will have time to game with that GTX 295 (whatever else will you use it for?), so why not convert a fraction of that time in saving a few hundred dollars?

Marcpro, you mentioned that you could tell me the parts for a very good gtx295, i7 920 system that is cheaper than what I was given. Can you please provide me the links to the parts in newegg and the overall cost (or whatever way you want to do it)? Or anyone else who wants to chime in.

Perhaps I should consider building myself as you all say if it's a big difference in price-I'm just afraid that if there are problems while I'm building it, I may get stuck and frustrated. But perhaps I should try anyway. Thanks.

I am VERY interested in realmcomputers, good price for great comp. However, it say the i7 is SOLD OUT. Do you think I can still buy it this weekend? Is the $1700.00 price the full price, or does the deep discount this weekend mean it will be a lot less? Does the 1700.00 include postage and handling, and tax?

Yea Realm Computers is excellent in what they do. They bend their backs to try and help you. Send them an email though. I mean just trying to buy a core i7 3.2 ghz from alienware costs $1500 just for the processor. Alienware makes $500 off each computer just for the cpu. Realm is a pretty recent company though and im not sure if they signed up for the bbb. But I got my computer from them and now can max out crysis at very high 1080p easily. they cover my overclocked cpu at 3.6 ghz also so if anything happens to it then they will replace it.

and yea the price includes shipping and handling and everything else.

And btw thats why they are called specials. They might not make profit but their regular prices make a little bit of money for them. When their computers go on sale though they are gone in a hurry. Not sure if any more will come.

Please go back and read what I said again. I know that buying the parts yourself and building it yourself will be a better deal. I have been builing my own rigs since the pentium 133 days and sli voodoo 2 dedicated 3d cards. I was simply saying that if he insists on buying a prebuilt that cyberpower is a great deal. If you go in customize your own setup with the parts you want they dont hit you with the extra $1200+ up charge out of no where like alienware or digital storm would. (digital storm btw builds amazing rigs, top notch overclocking and quality, albeit the do charge a premium) Go ahead and compare yourself. Make a build list on newegg.com that mirrors exactly what you get with a cyberpower and you will see they dont charge a great deal more.

I would absolutely use cyberpower, but I have read a few horror stories about having to return computers, poor packaging, very bad customer service on resellerratings.com and their own forum. What are your thoughts on that and have you heard from others who have had good experiences??

If I knew I would receive the comp, open the box and immediately start playing games I would certainly go with Cyberpower. Just a bit wary (although heard great things about digitalstorm as you say, but too expensive) thanks
