Short gameplay video from FC 2.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b03_ImYCgU8

(watch in hq and full screen pls or it's not noticable)

People tell me that it's normal but i noticed 50 pop ups - texture flicker just by moving ten feet. It's like my computer can't render this stuff nicely. Is everyone like this? I also get this on Crysis and other games too.

I have q6600, 4g Ram, GTX 260.

I get a similar problem with this when I play Crysis on my machine (which also has a GTX 260) at a resolution of 1920 * 1080 although the problem is solved when I play at 1600 * 1050. A peculiarity of the card methinks.

Are you sure it's similar problem? I don't have Crysis installed but i remember as you move trees near you would just flash and rocks would pop up and stuff did the same happen to you ?

I don't think it's a Video card problem or Video driver problem, because i used to have 9600 GT and i also tried different drivers with clean install.

I'd be amazed if it wasn't a graphics card problem. It looks like the very start of 'artifacting' (when the textures slurge due to the graphics card not doing the maths properly) which is usually caused by a failing GPU. Is it overheating at all? Maybe try cleaning the card/fans/pci slot.

Thank's for responding. I changed the resolution to 720x480 Harry and it didn't make a difference. :(.

How can i check if my GPU is overheating? As for dusting i oppened my computer and the Graphic card is clean.

The paid up version of Everest Ultimate (http://www.lavalys.com/) has hooks that will tell you your GPU temp but that involves spending money and it's potentially not what's going wrong.

it looks completely fine to me. maybe i've been gaming a lot longer than you but, if you are talking about what i think you are talking about, in old games you would see this all the time. you could often literally see a circle around you where outside it everything got about 5 degrees more blurry. There is no way any hardware can proces textures at high quality for the entire game world (and there is no need to do so) so afaik there are always sort of virtual circles around you that act as a boundaries between different levels of rendering quality. These circles have gotten substantially larger and less noticeable with better technology but if you look for it you should find it in just about any game with a larger view distance.

Oh. That's too bad. But i don't think a faulty cooler i bought the card recently. When i touch my computer where the graphic card is it's a little hot, but i think it's normal theese cards create heat.

It doesn't look normal to me, but I suppose it could just be how the game was made if it's optimized for lower vram systems(aka consoles), haven't played FC2 so wouldn't know. If you have patched the game and have the latest drivers all I can suggest is messing with the graphics settings in the game and nvidia control panel, lowering AA or texture detail etc.

I tried that. Have you any idea what's causing it. If it's a faulty gpu how do i check? If it's some other hardware how do i check? Help :(

You mean the shading going from blurred to sharp and back again as you move towards and away from it right? this is what i see in your video and is what i meant with the virtual circles that programmers use (as you may notice i know next to nothing about programming so i'm just describing the process as it makes sense to me). when you move, distant objects that were low res (again, to not have to render and load large amounts of data into video memory making things run smoother and, besides, they are further away so you wouldn't see all the details in real life too) will enter the circle and enter a higher level of rendering. in some cases the difference is quite large and will make it look weird.

shadows are a good example because they are relatively complex and taxing to the gpu and you gain quite a bit of performance by not rendering all the shadows in the visible world but limit it to the shadows within a certain radius (creating the circle). you could also try with different levels of AF to see what i mean as this helps to reduce this effect. I don't know how to describe this any better. I remember replaying mafia (old game which has a large open world) a couples of years ago and this game has entire buildings popping up in the distance as you move around which is basically the same thing except a dozen steps back in technology even at the highest settings (viewdistance etc.).

Bottom line; it most likely isn't a performance thing. your pc might have enough graphics power to be able to make it look better, but the programmers just made it look that way (to make it easier on themselves or to allow a greater variety of systems to be able to handle the game). maybe there's a mod or .ini hack to improve this, but i wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy the game ;)

GPU-Z can monitor your temps and is free. ATITool can check your video card for artifacts and is free. I think it's normal though.

It's common in games which are console friendly and in some strictly pc games as well.

I think it's usually called rendering distance. I can't remember if FC2 let's you adjust that or not, just look in the options.
