Erm, yes it would alright. But i really dont recommend it. The landscape may change in a year or two considering Windows 7 has been Microsoft's fastest selling and quickest adopting OS ever. Its going to become the standard and majority relatively quickly causing XP to fall into obsolescence.

Technicially yes it will be. You will miss out on DX 10 though. Also once Microsoft discontinues XP you won't have any Windows Updates. Oh and also certain games are a no go for XP such as Just Cause 2 and Shattered Horizons.

Going from 64- to 32-bit is silly - it will cut your performance.

What's the problem with Win7? It's a solid OS in my experience.

Define "fine"... XP is old. By Computer standards it's old enough to be an antique... My advice is to try and get along with Win7, if nothing else because games will probably be developed and optimized for that OS soon, if they aren't already.

I have noticed a few games recently running with higher FPS on 7 vs XP. Not a huge difference but it is there and will only get worse.

I've been using XP for as long as I can remember and I still don't feel the need to throw down a couple hundred on win7 when XP still runs great and is pretty much flawless.

I don't game on XP since I got to Win7 so I have nothing to compare to. Thanks for proving me right though. ;) :P

There are still plenty of people still using XP for gaming, and the difference between that and 7 isn't so striking that you don't have to stay with 7 if you don't want to....for now. If you want to go with XP, I'm sure you'll be just fine for a year or two. Still, I suggest giving Windows 7 64-bit a chance because it's advancements will become mainstream and games are starting to lack support for XP.

This. Eventually when I get a new PC (and there doesn't seem to be any need for an upgrade until the next generation of consoles arrive) I will of course get the latest Windows (which probably won't even be 7 then) but for now XP is completely fine, unless you have like Core i7, DX11 gpu and 4GB+ of RAM.

XP is just brutal. Compared to windows 7 XP runs slow, crashes, and is a driver s**tfest. When I moved to 7 my system started to run alot faster and Havent had a crash, a freeze or a driver problem with 7 since october.

I want to go to 7 but I haven't yet because I lose support for the classic joystick port, and there isn't a joystick made that bests my beloved Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro (first edition). I've looked...am still looking.

Either Vista or 7, xp is starting to show its age, becoming more and more vulnerable, and less and less support for it.

What's not to like about Windows 7 or Vista compared to Xp? You are stuck in the dark ages. No Xp pro is not fine for gaming. Hell there are some games already that require DX10 and more will follow.
