i booted it up for the first time, and everything seems to go well....until i get a huge notice that says Chassie Intrusion. then it goes to another screen that says "Fatal Error.....Process Halted"

what the hell do i do. I'm on the verge of tears

Go to your bios and look for the chassie option and turn it off. Its there to protect your pc when the case is open or thinks it is when cause it to do stuff.

ok....its weird, but i just turned on my pc again and now its not giving me that intrusion error

now its saying "HARD DRIVE NOT DETECTED" but then that message vanishes and it goes back to this asus screen, and then that changes and it says "insert boot media"

what does that mean?

It's telling you to install the OS. Put the windows cd in the dvd drive.

ok...now what. windows boots, but then it takes me to a vista style background with control over the mouse, but nothing else. no prompts of any kind are showing up...wtf?

oh, and the led for the hdd lights up....so is it actually being detected?

ok...it just loaded and i selected language...but now its saying please wait....but i don't get a progress bar..now what?

just wait, it's doing it's thing, try not to stress too much, I've had a few problems when building rigs, and at the time it feels devestating but in reality it's normally just a simple fix.

ok...now i do have a whole progress pompt. i entered the serial key and now its installing. taking a while though. hdd led blinking

Glad to see you got it working. did you go into BIOS and check temperatures etc and is fans rotating etc.. This is the first thing you should have done before you install anything.

i know it sounds silly, but next time you have a chance shut down and check all of your power cables, sata cables etc are pluged in firmly and securely, even the little plugs between the motherboard and case.
