Quit crying. If you cannot remember your passwords then write them down. It isn't that hard.

You could just write it all down or keep it on a floppy disc. I do agree with you though about everything.

Its called Xbox Live

If you feel like playing really good games and willing to sacrifice a little bit of convenience, come on back to PC.

If not, stick with console.

I find having a few accounts well worth the cost of playing awesome games online with more than 20 players, as opposed to having one acount and playing laggy ass games of TF2 and Modern Combat on 360 with 10 people

Well, in all honesty, it was trying to login to Hellgate that got to me just when I wrote that. Mainly cos yeah, I didnt write that particular pw down, now I cant remember it. Yes, you can write passwords down, but really its a matter of principal above anything, I just dont feel I should have to do it. There were never any real problems before and the old system wasnt exactly broke.

GFWL is probably the worst account system offender of the lot....you want me to PAY?! for something weve had for free all these years (yes, you still get silver free, but to play properly you need gold). Thats M$ trying to strike a monopoly it may undoubtedly actually get because nobody will turn round and give them the finger about it.

LOL. "matter of principal, I just dont feel I should have to do it"? If your too "durr durr" to remember your own passwords, then yea, you HAVE to write them down. Plus, passwords are meant to protect you.

Umm..I'd rather have dozens of usernames and passwords then have to be trapped to one service..which I have to pay for (XBL)

And maybe you should type your accounts down next time old man, you wont forget that way.

For games, online forums and the like I use the same set of usernames and passwords. I only have 3 different usernames and passwords so in the even that I forget which one I used for what game or website, it's just a short trial and error exercise to find out which combination works. Hassle for some I suppose, but for me it's just a minor inconvenience to maintain my preferences and protect my info.

Yeah, you just need to come up with one password that will adhere to all website rules - generally 6 or more characters that includes some letters and some numbers - this way one password fits all. and just use the same email address. Once you've done this you can always login to all your previous accounts and change old passwords to your new mega one.

Ugh. Hellgate was a waste of money for me too. But you need to create an account for any online game. It's just a sign of the times. Now as far as paying for GFWL... that's a whole other story.

Real Nice....The man comes on and makes a valid point about how we are losing our privacy and he gets attacked by a bunch of 12 year olds calling him cry baby and making other stupid remarks. Look, if you can't make a positive contribution to the post then do everyone a favor and STFU and go pick your nose and play with your belly button. This is why people have migrated to other forums because GS seems to be filled with nothing but little kids and their smart a$$ed comments anymore. People should not buy computers for kids. They don't have enough maturity or sense to interact with the real world properly. As for the OP, I agree whole heartedly. They do ask for too much info. Why? so they can sell your name and info to a marketing company. Once you have paid for a disk and had to use the serial number to either install it or get online then they do not need anymore information about you. It is NONE of thier business. They just want to make another buck off you by selling your info. Thank you for Dicsussing something other then "Can my computer run Crysys?" or "Why Can't I run Crysis?"

Recently, i have been using the same PWs, but it still makes no difference that i couldnt be bothered to write it down at the time.

I think people have got the wrong end of what Im saying though;

1. I never said I was going to consoles (PS; Ive only been through one 360 in the two years and I had a launch model)

2. All Im trying to say is that its annoying and intrusive, and anybody who has never found these systems to be this way has probably taken hippo tranquiliser at some point prior.

Yeah, its remembering those that I used before I started using the same ones, thats the major problem.

Oh, and yeah, the guy above is right about phone numbers, that is one they SERIOUSLY dont need to know for any data purposes whatsoever. In fact, some of these companies might really 'benefit' from a Data Protection audit or something.

A few days ago I was thinking the same thing. I bought Two Worlds on Steam and suddenly the game asked me for my adress, last name etc after starting the game up for the first time. Needless to say I gave them bogus info as I do not consider that info they need to know. The username and password stuff doesn't really bother me as I've been using the same for years, but I understand your feeling towards it.

Irongrinder1

That's sort of how I feel about it.

Username and password to play a game online? Sure, that seems reasonable enough. Asking for my home address just to play your game? No thanks.

On a somewhat related note, I'm also pretty peeved that some games are requiring internet connection just to play the single-player mode. What happens if the internet is down? I'm just not allowed to play the games I legally purchased? That's probably the biggest thing holding me back from really tying to get into buying games on Steam- for now, I'll be looking for disc copies or downloadable titles that don't treat me like a criminal.

I know how you feel. I have a Relic Account I can't access because the account retrieval system they use is horrendous. I usually write mine down but I forgot in this case as well as the secret question answer and now I can't use those games.

You could just write them down or use a single username and single password for them all... :|

I'd say the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience. And I myself have no trouble remembereing 10 or more active usernames/passwords for things like Xfire, Gamespot, Steam, Facebook/Myspace, Youtube, Wikia, Imageshack/Photobucket, MSN Messenger, MIRC, email, etc, etc.
