intel has finally decided to get its arse off the sidelines in the graphics department. and the results of the 1st official review of the hd 4000 are in. they aren't bad but the review isn't compelling enough to be a be-all end-all. performance wise the intel hd 4000 IB IGP stands shoulder to shoulder with an amd hd 4670 if the 4670 supported dx11. if you want a more contemporary comparison. HOWEVER this review was primarily done @ 720p not higher. so take the results with salt until we see a more thorough review of her ability to scale.

I've been wanting Intel to make major advancements with their integrated graphics for years, so I'm glad that they're finally making more progress. I knew that the improvements in Ivy Bridge would make the HD4000 a decent chip for portable gaming, especially since I game using the HD3000 in my laptop. I play Starcraft 2 using my HD3000 @ 720p with a mix of low/medium settings and Ultra texture quality. I was pleasantly surprised with the HD3000, so people should be very happy with the HD4000, especially considering the low price...

Intel playing with graphics, I don't like that. Especially siince they hyped up Larabe but ended up cancelling the game I was most looking forward to; Project Offset.

Any particular reason? I would prefer that AMD lead in the APU market, since they can't keep up with Intel CPU's, but I still want decent graphics chips with Intel CPU's. Mainly so I can play decent games on all of my PC's, not just my gaming PC...

Hopefully they'll follow this up with some proper driver support.

I bet this is coming with huge cuts to image quality. Sandy bridge IG image quality is the worst I have seen in about a decade.

They should let the customers choose - with or without IGP. Gamers are still gonna need a discrete gfx card, why make them pay for IGP?

Intel does make a 2550k which doesn't have the iGPU... But it costs more than the 2500k for some reason.

Yeah, it is. Dunno why anybody would want ot give up an iGPU and $10 for 100 more mhz though.

Well, Intel says that the AF is fixed and I doubt they would lie about it, so take it for what you will.

I think that is a bad decision. I would like to see some parallel processing within the CPU's. Force those IGP's down our throats and make this happen.
