Don't do it, there is no DX 10 for XP, all these "fan made" DX 10s are failures that most of the time corrupt your OS and you need to format.DanielDusti agree, don't do it, if you want to play Just Cause 2, buy windows 7 or vista
If many got it working, then you should get it too. A try doesn't hurt. See for yourself.Crimsaderlol, it'll corrupt your OS
Its not hard to get a student license for Windows 7, and those are usually ridiculously cheap. If you have a computer capable of playing games like JC2, there is no reason why you shouldn't be running Vista or 7.
The third party DX10 for XP might work, but you run a significant risk and it will probably result in a buggy game experience.

This proves you wrong.
Also if you corrupt yor OS you won't beable to boot your computer.

Where do you live ? I can get Windows 7 Home Premium full 64 for $141 after taxes here in Ontario, Canada.

That's the system builders version. It can only be used once.
Not worth it.
I'll stick with XP for a bit longer, will switch over to W7 eventually.

Don't you only ever use it once? I mean I reinstalled my system builder copy of Windows Vista to my old PC like 5 times... cause it was Vista :(.

Well I would have to share with my family and then maybe if I want to build another machine? If you just built a rig, the system builder's version is the way to go though.

Oh, thanks for link. It was way more expensive on Microsoft's website. I might actually get it until the end of the year :P So yeah, then I guess the risk doesn't worth it. I also doubt that DirectX 10 will run on XP, but... I don't know how these guys managed to run it.[QUOTE="Wasdie"]

You can't do that with a retail version either? The key activates one system at a time... The system builder pack is just an OEM disc... A retail box of Windows 7 comes with like 8 different manuals in every language on Earth and a plethora of other items which is why it cost $200, the system builder pack is just a disc and a key, because those people don't need a manual and simply want the disc...
Also if you are student, you could just get it for $30 or even free in some cases...
Just goes to show DX10 and 11 is a marketing scam. Still waiting on the jump we saw from dx8 to 9.
BDK-Soft
You serious?
Sure DX10 didn't have a lot of new features, but it implemented some new rendering techniques that DX 11 expanded on.
DX 11 is a massive jump from DX 9. You'll never see a jump like the one from DX8 to DX9 ever again. Now it's all about the fine details. Hammering out surfaces to look amazingly realistic, cloth to move correctly in the wind, shadows to properly be shaded depending on the light sources and ambiant light around it... tons of little things that don't make massive differences.
Also DX 11 allows for tesselations which will improve models to be even more realistic without a huge performance hit. Some of the stuff that DX 11 does is excellent and in the coming years we will see the crazy kind of lighting and textureing that DX11 allows.
DX10 and DX11 aren't marketing scams at all. The real marketing scam was to not support DX10 or DX11 with Windows XP. This is a hack to make that work, a dangerous one on that.

Why yes I am.Enjoy sticking with really outdated OSs and graphics cards then. You'll be waiting for years.
Windows 7 is better in every way now.

Why bother with hacks when Windows XP is obsolete? Windows 7 is better in every way now.
Wasdie
I see your point, but c'mon. Windows XP is not broken, nor obsolete. It seems like 95% of software runs on it, if not more.
Calling Windows XP obsolete is like calling my 15 year old Jeep obsolete; its not, it is just old :) It gets me from point A to point B, and if the only alternative is to dump a bunch of money (and to many, 100+ dollars for an OS is expensive) into something new but unnecessary, than it is better to stick with the old.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
With that said, I made the switch to Windows 7 four months ago and it is fan-friggin'-tastic :D Highly recommended, but onlyif you got 100+ dollars to burn. I bought mine with a percentage of my tax return
My PC died a couple of days ago and I'm using a computer running XP while my new PC is being built and it's soooo bad, just so slow and annoying. I want my PC with Vista back!!!
Seriously going back to this ugly dinosaur of an OS has opened my eyes even more of just how much better the new operating systems are. If you can't afford Seven then at least pick up Vista at a bargain price.

No it isn't broken, but it doesn't use any sort of threading and current generation UI and mulitasking useability. Thus it is obsolete.

Current Gen UI isn't all that its cracked up to be... I have been using Windows 7 for about a month now and still prefer the UI in Windows XP.Seriously the replies here are weird.... win7 or vista for that matter are not better than xp, they are slower, dakan45
That's funny I went from XP to Vista SP1 on the same system and it was like getting out of a Datsun and jumping into a brand new Lamborghini. Navagation, UI etc are just so much faster and it looks so much better.

The exact opposite here an not just for me but many people, infact i find very weird that you had such a fast navigation, vista sp1 was slow as hell, especially on laptops. As for the UI? It was terrible, confusive and much slower than xp, Everytime i want to perfom an action such as moving files, photographs or scripts and models that i hav make, it takes bouble the amount of time it takes to xp thanks to all those pop ups asking me if i am sure i want to do this and that and if i got the right, multitasking my ass. Now i understand why most gamedeveloeprs use xp, you can do things faster.[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"]

Hmmm I suppose you are technically correct, but in a more practical sense its tough to call it obsolete.
Anyway, whatever.
On a separate note, I am assuming that is ArmA II in your sig. Is that modded or a custom map? I am looking into getting into multiplayer ArmA and would like some pointers.
Vista/7 confusing? what kind of argument is that? they're identical to XP except the "Users" folder, it's not Documents and Settings anymore. Doing basic stuff was faster on Vista but it had the same problem as XP over time it started to get slower, and this was finally fixed in 7, it's as fast as it was last year when I first installed it and sorry to say this but you're not fooling anyone you didn't have an extensive experience with Vista if it gave you "pop ups", any mediocre PC user would remove those inconveniences day 1, you either didn't know what it was so it's doubtful Vista really was as bad as you're explaining or you never really used it much at all.DanielDustThat is a post that collapses on its own argument. Seriously identical to xp? Hell no, everything is a mess and in a completly diffirent location. I must be a mediocre user if i have to take more than a day to figure out all the changes they made and where they put them. No wait, i am aslo using various versions of Linux and they are both easier and faster to learn when they are nothing like Xp. So no thanks vista/7 is the problem not xp or any other Os. MS better step their game up and make a good Os rather patching up Win7 to what vista should have beeen.

Have you even tried windows 7? Its amazing, the best windwos versino ever.
I to wasnt a fan of Vista at all, I ended up going back to XP. But after trying Windows7 I was hooked. Its like Windows XP except improved.

"Have you even tried windows 7" aghh, it really pisses me off when people act like that, not in the whole xp vista thingy just when they say "have you even tried" like you have not. So explain me exactly what gave you the impression i have not because windows 7 are polished vista and nothing else.win7 look exactly like vista but it has less issues and thats al lthere is to it. So i dont see where from where you pull the "its like windows xp expect improved" sinde they look exactly like vista. If anything its like vista but improved. Please Log In to post.
