Just Clicked Buy on New Monitor

I just hit Purchase on a brand new Dell 24" 1920x1080 monitor. Coming from a wimpy 1280x720 display, am i going to be blown away?

I seriously doubt it. I ran a few games on a 1680x1050 with a 9600m GT (which is similar to the 8600GT desktop) and they ran fine at medium settings.

In the worst case scenario, the OP will have to turn down a few settings. He'd still be blown away by the high res. goodness though.

i mainly play left 4 dead, team fortress and half life stuff. also newer rpg's. i have the performance thing planned out to take the hit, but what about image quality?

I went from a 15" 1024x768 Dell to a 20"Acer 1600x900 and I was blowing away at the picture quality. I'm guessing going from your reso to 1920x1080 will definently be noticable and you will be happy.

agreed performance aside, when i went from 1360x768 to 1680x1050... oh yeah i noticed the difference right off the bat. so im positive the OP will notice a difference in his upgrade, unless he is completely oblivious or blind. lol :)
