Sorry I am late to the party but there's too many games to play.

OMG! This is how a game should end! It was truly amazing when I opened the portal to the moon and everything got sucked into the abyss. It's definitely one of the best gaming moment in my life.

The whole game was so perfectly paced, all puzzles are so well designed and the different environments are epic. I really love Cave's reference to Black Mesa as well. However, I like the credit song from the original Portal a bit more but that's just me.

Now the only problem is to find a good co-op partner who haven't play the co-op mode so we can take our sweet time trying to solve the chamber together.

The game is good. The only thing i wished for was harder puzzles and less hand holding. i dont like the "enter room" find white spot. WIn.

I really fail to see how the game is like that at all when its constantly mixing its challenges, forcing you to make new combinations, specifically with the new gels you're given.

i second this. i mean theres different ways you can complete the puzzles, (in some cases) some obvious, some not so obvious. the gels also added a new level of complexity and depth to the games to mix things up and keep it fresh...

There are tons of custom single player and co-op maps for Portal 2. Some are quite challenging and they really add more hours to the game.

I agree Portal and Portal 2 are in my top 5 games of all time. I just finished Portal 2 last month and was blown away by how much fun I had, I litteraly had a smile on my face the whole game.

The ending wasn't perfect to be honest. Everything you had learned was thrown away into a numbingly simple boss battle, which went into 'full first person cutscene, lets rip control away from you' despite being completely in control throughout the game. Which was pretty bad, even if it was polished, rather exiting and funny. Otherwise the singleplayer parts of Portal 2 were well, good, but not outstanding to be honest. I really found that the game didn't have as much flair as I was hoping and seemed almost afraid to really challenge the player with new concepts ideas or reaction based puzzles, or move from the basic predictable formulaic pacing. In that regard it was a lot like the underwhelming HL2 episodes, but better of course. However I too haven't played coop at all, and would really like to; alas after shifting countries everyone who I usually played games with were nine hours ahead, so I'm hoping coop is a bit more original and challenging - with more flair than the singleplayer. I honestly have the impression it is.

[QUOTE="biggest_loser"] I really fail to see how the game is like that at all when its constantly mixing its challenges, forcing you to make new combinations, specifically with the new gels you're given.

It introduced elements, but the spaces were designed overwhelmingly deliberately to point out the process of where to do or apply things, when solving puzzles. It was very much following procedures then 'hey here's a room, you have the gun, figure it out' in the first Portal. The largest mechanical indicator of this is how the portal gun could only be fired on very few surfaces in Portal 2, compared to Portal 1 which reversed that completely. Very different, more methodical and in some ways easier than the first imho, but intelligently done nonetheless.

dont feel bad being late to the party. the only thing you should ever feel bad about is if you place it below any other game for GOTY. seriously. i haven't played a single player campaign so intriguing and captivating.

Yeah, I felt like Portal ended just as it was about to get hard whereas Portal 2 had a more fleshed out experience, especially with the Cave/Wheatley bits which seemed to get a lot more devious than the puzzles in Portal.

I felt the final boss was harder in Portal 1 though, as by the time the sequel rolled around you were sort of accustomed to what you had to do.

i agree, its mostly....well, only composed of figuring out which wall to put the portal on, which wall launches you where and thats about it. you see an angular wall and you (granted youre pretty into the game) can figure out pretty much that the stage required some kind of portal launching. the formula for solving the stages was much more baisic. P2 is a little less forgiving as far as the complexity of the puzzles based on my knowlege of the two....

Yes, but Portal 1 had challenge modes for most of the levels. These challenges things would be changed around like an extra wall in the way or the wall surface changed. Challenges in Portal 1 were on par with Portal 2 levels. Levels in Portal 1 could also be completed in multiple ways. The way you solved a puzzle could many times be very different than someone else. Portal 2 has none of that. The way you solve a level is pretty much the same as the way everyone solves it. However, with the Portal 2 free DLC, maybe it will be on par with player creativity. I'm still waiting on the dlc to see if I want to buy the game. (beat it at a friends house)

I played it through with a couple of friends (repeated some puzzles). Some of the last few puzzles were really good I thought, not a lot of enjoyment out of replaying them but can still be funny to watch robots die :P Definitely worth playing if you enjoyed the single player.

ITT: Self entitled gamers that think a game should be catered specifically to their tastes in order to take a massive multi-million sale hit. Logic averted.

well see the handfull of challenge modes (most of which were good but not much more challenging than the original levels, except for the last few) cant really compare to the way P2 forces you to think about the things you can do with Portals but even then you arent really comparing the original game to the original game with the original portal DLC.

in P2 its not simply about walking through a portal to get here or there. Portal did a wonderful job of getting people to think with portals but P2 expands upon that logic by adding new elements to cause you to think differently about placement and environment interaction. to put it simply, like i was saying before, after some training, players began to associate objects with mechanics. Baoces designated a nearby button, angled conrete slabs indicated flinging was in order. baisicly the world was a series of contraints telling you what you could and couldnt do which left the opportunity for experimentation very narrow. you place a portal here and couldnt place a portal there. pretty much in a lot of ways it was it was a cery binary interaction with the world whereas in P2 the walls and surfaces and objects have a bunch of different states down to the surfaces themselves being able to be changed...it gives the player new ways to think.

Well the portal 1 challenges was not hard or harder on about the same level. The main difference was that in Portal 1 there was more then one solution for most areas. In portal 2 you have 1 (some have 2) solutions for SOME of the areas. But like i said... Less hand holding, harder maps, more ways to solve them, more awesome Portal 2 co-op maps with super hard challenges (kinda like the ones in Portal 1 but co-op :>.

I agree, I found Portal 2 MUCH more challenging, whereas Portal was a walk in the park.

Portal 2 really built well on Portal. The story was great - and the humour. The whole potato thing was *brilliant*, especially the casual mention that the AIs can survive on just 1.1 V, which is what you get from that sort of potato battery. Superb piece of game design, big pat on the back to Valve and the devs.

I too am pretty far behind in all of the new releases, but this was one of the games I finished pretty close to startup and I absolutely loved it.

You really need to get into the co-op; I felt it was much more challenging than the single player (although I still loved single) and was one of the best co-op games I ever played. I would suggest to find someone with a mic though. The game does have mechanics that make it possible without a mic, but it would be much harder. Good luck!

Man, that moment when you catch a glimpse of the moon was one of the best gaming moments I've ever had, and I've been playing game since the late 80's.

"They can't possibly want me to... oh my god thats unbelievable!"

I bought Portal 2 for my boys but didn't seriously consider playing it myself. I like the FPS games mostly. My sons amazed me with how they could eventually solve the puzzles in the game. So one day I tried, wasn't so hot, and so left it alone. Until recently that is. I guess I let myself be psyched by the game and was afraid I wouldn't do as well as my sons which could be embarrassing. With great effort I admit I was able to get through the game and am now in the chamber with the big door and two over-ride buttons. I have an idea of what to do but it seems impossible for now. This could be said to be true of all the puzzles in the game. Then someone solves them. I have high hopes though. In closing I want to say what a great game. I want to go back to the first Portal (Which I bought but never played). I am sure it will be some fun. Maybe by the time I get done with that one I will have forgotten how to get through Portal 2 and play it again. Yippee!

My jaw dropped as well. I loved the achievement for that, "Lunacy - Yeah, that just happened..." Perfect! :D

After playing portal one, portal 2 just felt like the same old same old honestly. It was easy because i knew what to expect after a while. When i beat it i really felt bad that i payed 60 bucks for it

I regret spending 10 Euros on this game. I only played two hours and don't like it at all.

To quote myself from somewhere else,

I HATE WHEATLEY. His voice and delivery make me mad. And while I'm glad that the game doesn't feel like a giant tutorial anymore, I'm not pleased by how limited the puzzles are. Every room telegraphs the solution, you just have to figure out the order in which to do things and frankly that's not entertaining. I feel like I'm running around doing chores while robots crack jokes around me. It ain't that funny either IMO. I like the parts where the humour comes from the animation or involves objects in the world more than any Glados monologue.

Another thing that rubs me the wrong way is how when you enter a room something happens (debris fall, panels move or whatever) and draws attention to the door. I actually feel that Valve's fabled experiments and testing are detrimental in this case. I wonder what will happen to the next Half-Life, given their comments about focusing resources mostly on the things their testing reveals the player is attracted to. It might very well end up hurting players like me that love to explore the game world.

It's more fluid and quality wise, Portal 1 is garbage, 2 is perfect, that's not a reason to avoid a substantially better game, also CO-OP is harder than anything official P 1 has.
