Well first off, what games do you like? First person shooters, MMO's, RPG's, Sim's, puzzles? Also get a laser mouse if you already don't. Mice with the roller ball on the bottom are terrible. As for keyboards, it really doesn't matter what kind you have to be honest.
Get any Keyboard and mouse, it doen't really matter. Also, get Crysis: Maximum Edition; it comes with Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Crysis Wars. Get Crysis 2, as well; it'a very good game.
not to sound obvious, but team fortress 2
don't over accesorize yourself w/ pc. the interior hardware is the most important when it comes to pc gaming imo.
any keyboard and mouse will work fine as long as it feels comfortable in your hands.
oth STALKER and the witcher are good picks ^^
also Amnesia if you like survival horror is pretty nice
And I do have a soft spot for Killing floor.
If you can live with a few older games, you could look for Vampire: the masquerade: Bloodlines, and the first Deus ex (with the prequal comming out soon ;) )
As for the KB/M thing, they are not needed, I quite like theLogitech G500 mouse, I would advise you to go to a store and look at a few mice, and if possible feel how they are in your hand, different people prefer different things.
As for the kb, its a fairly simple matter, any kb can do the same (kinda) any good quality keyboard would likely do fairly well :)
First off, welcome to PC gaming!
I would suggest to download steam and buy a game or two on there (you can also preorder The Witcher2). Also some other services that sell games for you to download are Impulse, D2D and Gamersgate. I prefer Steam and Impulse personally, but D2D has some great sales to.
Here are some games I would suggest:
- The Witcher
- Dragon Age Origins
- Total War Shogun2 (love this game and im not huge on strategy games usually)
- Crysis1, Crysis Warhead and Crysis2
- ARMA2 (the best realistic military shooter out there, so much fun)
- Stalker series (all of them are good, although I am one of the few that enjoyed the first two more then the newest one).
- Fallout1, Fallout2 or Fallout New Vegas (Fallout1/2 have old graphics but are still great and New Vegas is alot better then Fallout3)
- Battlefield Bad Company2 and its Expansion Vietnam (great online fps action with alot of teamwork)
- Team Fortress2 (My favorite online FPS this gen)
- Divine Divinity (great RPG that you can get for around 5$ I think on GOG.com)
- Gothic 1-3 (Good old school rpgs with alot of missions to do and big game worlds)
- Risen (by the makers of Gothic1-3, same type of game just new graphics and runs better)
- Company Of Heroes (RTS game that is alot of fun)
- Deus Ex (first one is old but very good)
- Planscape Torment (awesome old school rpg with great story)
- KOTOR/Baldurs Gate series (great games frmo Bioware)
- Dawn Of Discovery or Simcity 4 if you want a trading/building game
- Starcraft2
- Diablo2 and expansion pack (If you want to get ready for Diablo3)
- Left4Dead 2 (if you want a fun zombie coop game to play with a friend or two get this)
- Icewind Dale (another good older rpg)
- Arx Fatalis (really nice older rpg to)
- Vampire M
As for keyboard and mouse? I would get just a cheap average keyboard and a then spend a little on a decent gaming mouse.
Hope ya have a fun time bud and feel free to take some screenshots of the games you are playing and post them in the SCREENSHOT thread that is a sticky in this forum!
Get Steam.
Get a Razer Death Adder or if you like RPGs the Razer Naga (mouse)
Test keyboards, there ARE DIFFERENCES; a previous poster is wrong, you want to shop this and get the "best" you can afford.
Razer is the best gaming mouse company easily, I would also check out the Razer (nostromo) n52te (google it); its basically a keyboard + gamepad.
Stalker first IMO + the "complete" mod for the version you buy (avoid clear sky for now).
It is funny how people always remember the newest games and forget the older when suggesting the best games.
If I were you, I would check the top scores of ALL TIME and not only the last year or 6 months. Also dont forget to check the gamer's scores since they are much more reliable than gamespot's.
Another reason to do this is that older games start the stories of the franchises and are also cheaper.
Yeah I am really up for playing any good games, old or new, and that is sort of why I got a PC. It seems like I will now have so many more options. I may have to hold off on getting a great mouse and keyboard right now and just pick up something cheap, although those Razer KB/M look pretty sick. I think to start off I would like to get something like a RPG - Possibly the Witcher. A FPS: I have heard good things about Stalker, if I do get that I hear to download some sort of a "complete" mod, is that true? I am completely new to mods. And a good multiplayer game. Maybe TF2, or BF2?GoPens87
You don't need to download the complete mod, but it makes the game far better. Basically fixes bugs, makes it look better, and adds a few new features. Here's the link to it-http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009/news/stalker-complete-2009-release. And don't worry, it's very easy to install, it's just an exe file that will auto detect where your game is so you don't really have to do anything but click a few times.
And the Witcher is a great rpg if you like story. Don't get it for the combat, it's either a love it or hate it kind of thing. And make the orange box your first fps games. It's only $10 more than Team Fortress 2 and comes with Half Life 2, the episodes, Portal, and TF2.
[QUOTE="o0Pwnzorz0o"] For the mouse I suggest a Logitech MX518BornGamerBest mouse ever made. It's like the Beatles of mice. i also chuck in my +1 for that suggestion. i use it myself and its been very reliable and is just right in terms of its different calibration settings. mine of about 5 years old and its only problem is its a little scratched and grubby :P. witcher and stalker are excellent games and well worth a play (though stalker scares the crap out of me..im such a pansey :S). just a heads up on witcher...the first chapter after training is a little boring. stick with it...it really picks up after chapter 1. also make sure that you get the enhanced edition (or if you get the normal edition then get the enhanced edition patches. there free. EE makes a big difference). just going to throw out some more niche games and some older games you may also enjoy. i think there on steam. kings bounty the legend and armoured princess recettear (capitalism HO!) trackmania united forever (theres a free version called trackmania nations forever. very cool and crazy racer) peggle from impulse (a competitor to steam and a very kewl store for games you would never hear of) galactic civilisations 2 ultimate edition (warning..it will eat your life :D ). sins of a solar empire (warning..it doesnt have a single player campaign but a skirmish is still a huge and very fun undertaking.) from GOG (legendary website for older games that are still great). outcast deus ex the baldurs gate series freespace 1+2
. Anyways yeah I mainly enjoy FPSs, RPGs, and I would love to get into some strategy games since I never got to enjoy them on my consoles.GoPens87
RPGS and FPS are my fav genres to, definatly check out some of the games I listed. Not a huge strategy fan but there are a few I really enjoy to.

half My List is old games :?
Why are you all recommending The Witcher? IMO it's ridiculously bad, i played it like 10 minutes then uninstalled. There are much better RPG's out there. For example i enjoyed Arcania: Gothic 4 which should be inferior by general opinion way more. Also can't wait for Fable III to arrive on PC.
You see, to each his own....

Gothic4 better then The Witcher? Hell no, Gothic4 might be the worst rpg ive played in 20+ years, a slap in the face to Gothic1-3.
And if you only played 10 mins of The Witcher then I am not surprised you hated it, most rpgs you have to play more then 10 mins..
Get Mirror's Edge. So much better than the console versions, the controls are just that much smoother with kb/m.
I have King's Bounty: Armored Princess as well, pretty good RPG. Got it for $10 and at that price it's well worth it.
Dragon Age: Origins is my favorite RPG on PC right now.
And the obvious recommendation of Crysis: Maximum Edition comes along as well.
If you haven't played The Orange Box that should be a fairly solid purchase too right now.
Glad to see another pc gamer, I've been pc gaming since last june and havent looked back. You will come to learn steam is one of the best things that has ever happened to pc gaming. Whether it be the amazing sales they are always having or being able to directly download a game to your hard drive anytime you want. Any game you currently have on console to assure you that you will enjoy on your pc even more. I played mass effect 1 and 2, left 4 dead 1 and 2 on my 360 and dragon age origins, dead space 1, call of duty 4, black opsand batman arkham asylum on my ps3 and bought all those games again for pc and each one is way more fun on the pc than on a console. Some advice though about left 4 dead 2, if you play versus the community is pretty elitist so there will be times you get kicked for very minor reasons.

..
I think it was a bold new direction to take the Gothic franchise, it seems a little elitist to say that. Please Log In to post.
