I need a really good anti virus. Like one of equal quality to the paid ones. Something that you personally use to defend your pc.
And if that isnt possible with a free one, reccommend a bought one that i will look into.
Thanks.

I always hear AVG is awful now. I now use Avira. I also hear that Microsoft Security Essentials and Avast are supposed to be pretty good.
AVG is now a resource hog and buggy, Avira is better! Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials are also very good alternatives.I always hear AVG is awful now. I now use Avira. I also hear that Microsoft Security Essentials and Avast are supposed to be pretty good.

The recommended softwares are good enough.
TIPS: Control what you download on your computer. I haven't got a single VIRUS on my system ever since I became a hardware-enthusiast and an overall computer geek!
First of all, you took that image from a website that says your only allowed to show people the front page.Avira is the best, it even bet out every pay-to-use AV program.

Second of all, if you look in that chart you posted. Avira has MANY False Positives. Thats really bad when your trying to download something and it deletes a file because it got a false positive.
Case in point, MW2 with Avira. Avria was saying that MW2 was putting viruses on people's computers which caused a lot of out rage on Activision's forums, Infinity Ward's and Steam forums.

Yeah, you don't want a lot of false positives because it can affect software by isolating or preventing a file from running properly. Part of the reason I switched away from McAfee was because of all the false positives, which prevented me from playing some older games unless disabled. You can say everything is a virus and get a 100% detection rate.In fact, if you were to read the entire article you'd notice that avira was rated much lower than the other AVs just because of all the false positives. Avast was rated among the highest with most of the retail AVs (although slightly worse as depicted by the graph).
I also think Avira 9.0.0.446 is a build for the premium version, which does more than just AV.

Problems that you have with Avira are down to your settings
i use Avira all the time and get maybe 2/3 false positives per month
that is better than Kaspersky or Norton not detecting anything and having your PC hijacked

How do I know? Because I scan my PC every couple of months with Malwarebytes.

You know that Malware doesn't detect Killapp trojans or Keyloggers ?

I guess thats the price you pay for having the best AV, you probably cant have your cake and eat it (i never understand why that means what it does anyway).First of all, you took that image from a website that says your only allowed to show people the front page.[QUOTE="ish27"]

Avast! just had that happen to them too a day or two ago, there was a specific hotfix launched because it was trying to kill a couple of legit programs. Ditto for AVG last year, although AVG was trying to take out Windows system files, lol. F/P's to me are worth it - all I have to do is look and you can generally instantly tell if it's a F/P, and that failing you've got services like Virustotal to double-check the file. Please Log In to post.
