So just recently quit WoW , Had a full epic 70 warrior , raided ALOT , ( guild was downing bosses in scc/eye )

But i decided to quit , reason why is i coudnt keep playing a game that req. me to play 5-6hrs a day so i can progress. Even tough i was having a lot of fun it just was about time...

And quiting WoW is no easy task , so i tryed selling my account , which got me baned but whatever.

Since im having a lot of trouble quiting , all that is in my mind is WoW.

Can anyone suggest me things to do to get my mind off it? things to do in the gaming aspect. I already go out every other day , but that still isnt cuting it. what i need is another game.

So this is mainly for the people who also have quited WoW , what did you do to make it easyer?

i know this sounds like im some 12year old kid crying about it , but the fact is that this game is a very addictive game and its real hard to quit it , so im asking for help =/

Nope, I've tried everything like that

You want to know how? Stay off the internet as much as you can, hell if have a console go to there

Or you can find game that suits your interests

It's hard but you'll make it, I did it and so can you

It's not that hard really, just keep remebering how much it would suck to have to relevel and do everything all over again, not to mention how bad the end game is overall.

Find a new game, personally I started playing my 360 more and I can do so in a casual manner with like an hour or two a day in various places. Or you can always try reading :D that seems to get people out of games pretty fast.

I recommend playing quick burst games like arcade style racers or puzzle games. That way you can get yor competitve fix but use your extra time learning a new skill or hobby like playing an instrument or sport. If you don't like getting out, I recommend learning a new language with programs like Rosetta stone. It can be fun to learn and you still get a fix because you progress a little each day

There are thousands of other great games to try out man,wow is just one of them and it aint addictive untill you think otherwise ..i have probably 10 more games on my pc that are single players and i hardly play wow nowadays since its all the same crap designed so a person can lose more than 7 hours a day on damn blizz servers thus losing their lives, you should spend more time outside doin things you enjoy or inside playing other games cuz trust me there are tons of other games that are alot better than the famous computerised weapon ...called WoW :D

With game addictions like these you need to replace WoW with something equally addictive. I suggest drinking or heroine.

i know how u feel, i still do after i quited for 4-5months now, i cant find any game that make your time pass fast like WoW, i didnt find any game that make u lose the feeling of time" thats how i describe a good game".

to remove this feeling try to play any other game, and try new things but if u really want something to keep it away from your mind geta GF they are the best at these things.

i still want to play WoW. but am still holding my self this is my 3rd try to stop it..and am doing good so far

"control your self" is the key word :)

You dont have a job cause you dont want to but you could.Oh and you did be surprised at the amount of highschool sweethearts that end up marrying, with that mentality it won't happen to you, but only because you don't want it to.

Hmm, fighting an addiction to a game can be tough. I guess the best plan of action for you would not be to play more games, as this is more avoiding the problem rather than solving it, and instead find a new hobby or interest to take up your time.

Wow an amazing amount of people reading the first 2 lines of his first post then posting 'LOL GET A LIFE/GF'.

We've already established he a) has a girlfriend and b) has a life. He has a few hours to burn in the evenings like most people, and he used to play WoW but wants a new game - kay?

When I got a full time job I decided to quit WoW, I almost missed it for two weeks but then that went away. I see my brother and sister playing every now and then and I remember how crap it was - there's no good reason why you should need to grind for 2 hours just so you can attend a raid!

If your computer has the specs you're telling us you might want to try some games you never played which were released around years 2000 - 2006. Diablo 2, Deus Ex, Baulders Gate 2, Half Life and all its variants, Far Cry spring to mind. Speaking of which you can get Far Cry free now (contains adverts)so may be a good choice!.

I personally play Battlefield 2142 in a clan a few times a week now, takes way less time and rewards me more fun. Unfortunately you'd need to upgrade your hardware to run modern games really, as you're falling out of the minimum spec bracket :(

Not a WoWer but I quit EQ cold turkey because it was ruling my life. You just need to get some new hobbies or pick up your old ones. You must have neglected a lot while on the treadmill that is WoW. Just keep reminding yourself of what you had to give up to stay on par in WoW.

You could try out Guild Wars. It's a fantastic series with an actual storyline.

PLEASE READ: (from someone who truly cares for you)

The way I personally quit (I also had Epiced 70 lock and rogue, in a mag + guild) was to come to realize that all I was playing for was nothing. The game is in the end pointless, blizzard does not care about you, just your money, when you buy the game, you are not buying it, you are making a down-payment to rent blizzards property.

You are continuing to pay on month after month for blizzards property. But the MAIN THING that helped me quit was to realize, everything you are working on for 5-6 hours a day raiding and such is that it will all slowly become useless in the future expansion and patchs. EVERYTHING YOU WORKED YOUR BUTT OFF FOR, will be thrown away.

I worked through every tier of armor almost up to 5, and it all has been replaced, and will continue to be replaced. I do NOT say this to piss you off, just to help you get your mind off the game, it really helped me. And I LOVE the feeling of not wanting to play WoW when I get home everyday from school and work.

I hope you stay sober of WoW, its a bad obsession, its ruined many friendships for me.

Ok, i have never played WoW and have no intention of doing so. But i have read a few threads like this and i really dont udnerstand. Its a game. Thats it. Like, hell. Your character levels up in games like Sacred, but ya dont sit there playing it for hours on end just to level up or whatever. I really have no grounds for much of an opinion. So feel free not to lay me out for it.

Thing is i just dont understand it, thats all.

That sucks man. i think i just quit WoW cause i CANT stand it anymore... and im only a level 41 NE warrior :P

its slow, it requires WAY too much time, and i have firmly established with myself that the RPG genre is NOT for me.

i just upgraded my computer from 128mb of video memory to 512mb for 100 bucks and now im getting in A LOT more time with games that i always wanted to play but never could... i can even run Bioshock on high settings really well!

i give my support in that you find a way out of this addiction, cause any addiction is bad news. Good luck man!

Tc ra ya kidding me? Its a game the last time i checked. realise theres more important things in life aside from WOW. Its not an addiction at all but more so a habit, if you dont want to play, then dont, but dont make it sound like its some disease. Theres other things in life that could have you worse for wear.

Get a life, friends, or whatever dude. Sorry, but your story sounds really pathetic...

And seriously, the LAST thing you need is "another game". The thing you need is some self control! Before you even think about playing another game, you need to learn what moderation and self respect is.

WoW is not the problem, the lack of self control and respect for yourself is. Fix yourself, and dont blame it on the game...

Well.I played it for a year and i probably was lucky if i played 6 hours a week....I could see how someone could get hooked if the ultimate goal was uber everything but to me the combat was really simplistic and The PvP was a joke..

mind you that was right after it came out but unless it's changed I find it pretty boring..I would think a challenging single player RPG might be just the thing

No need to be harsh, you areright about the self control, butthe game is some of the problem, it's extremely addictive. Sounds like you have never played the game the way you speak

Yup, played it for 8 months and have a lvl 60 warrior (lvl 60 was max when I played) and a few mid level toons. I just understand how to manage my time, and wouldn't make exscuses if I did become obsessed. It's a game for crying out loud...

I too have played it...so the point you made sonkev is irrelevant imho. Its addictive yes, but i too have self control and realise that ITS ONLY A GAME. I think people need to grasp this concept if they are to remove their bad habits. Note i said bad habits because excessive use of a game is a habit, not an "addiction". The harshness dnuggs used was valid imho and refreshing to see that at least someone in this thread has the idea of "its only a game", nailed down. The rest with their "helpful insights" and "ways to cure his addiction" are not helping the TC by offereing advice as though they were psychologists. Its simple - have some self control and a reality check. Sorry if i too am being harsh, but its not about sugar coating in this instance.

[QUOTE="MyopicCanadian"]Find games with good stories that don't suck - suggestions as follows: Half-Life 2, Shadow of the Colossus, F.E.A.R., Company of Heroes, Bioshock. I doubt you'll ever look back once you play games like those :)MyopicCanadian

Half Life 2's storyline sucked, buddy...so did F.E.A.R.'s. Those games revolved only on gameplay, not storyline.

Please don't state an opinion like a fact.

Don't know about HL2, but for F.E.A.R. the devs even said there's not much of a storyline. They just threw things in to give suspense and keep folks guessing. This became quite clear in F.E.A.R. XP.

So that much is a fact.

There is something wrong with you mentally if you are having withdrawl from a damn video game. Go seek help elsewhere. A profesional therapist is the place to do this not the gamepot forums.
