about a month or so ago world of warcraft randomly started freezing. And yesterday I bought the sims 3, and it would be fine and then go black and then when the screen came back on it would be extremely dark but i could still see the game and play it. Other times while playing it, it would just freeze completely. The screen would look as if it is broken into different parts. Now earlier I was trying to improve world of warcrafts frame rate so did some stuff in ATI's catalyst control center but I'm not sure what I did. I know on several occassions while i was playing WoW I checked the vertical sync and the triple buffering buttons, and i've also changed the refresh rates several times and i'm not sure if that may have something to do with my problem. But any help you can offer me would be great, thank you!

When is the last time you updated your video drivers? Do you know what graphics card you are using?

well today I updated my driver to the most recent, but before then the last time it was updated was in 2007. I think my graphics card is an ati radeon 1650 pro HIS. I just reran the sims 3 hoping that by updating the driver would prevent the game from randomly freezing at times but it still happened.

If your power supply is starting to fail you might not have enough power distribution to keep the right voltage to your cpu or ram and that would cause the freezing. If nothing else fixes your problem try replacing the power supply.

Try doing a system restore back a few days before all this started happening. Also scan for virus and spyware. You you or even someone else installed something that isnt agreeing with your computer. If you overclocked your card then that could be causing the problem as well.
