It's OK, not bad...not great either...just OK. I think it would be more fun with a friend or two.

I do not like at all that I have to keep going into the inventory to equip weapons though...stupid...should be it just keeps recycling them since they break so easy.

For a technical question: are my shadows displaying correctly?

The building and tree shadows are fine... but sometimes on characters you see them like zig-zag.... see the screenshots below under the chin.

I found it boring after an hour of playing. Thankfully it was a rental, so I didnt waste too much money on it. Shadows seem fine to me. Happens in quite a few games tbh.

You'll love it after a while, game is great right from the start, but in the beginning you're not used to the flaws, shadows are fine, lots of games usually have random shadow glitches.

They effed up stuff making some large gameplay changes in the latest patch. Game is not as fun any more with these changes IMO. Shadows look same on my machine btw.

The only thing that really changed game play wise is the kick takes stamina...which makes perfect sense as pretty much every other action (running, jumping, attacking, punching, ect) also takes stamina. Kick is still useful, you just can't spam it like before.

Here's the whole patch notes:

Gameplay improvements

  • Level cap raised to 60
  • New blueprints for weapon mods added
  • Infected damage reduced
  • Infected no longer interrupt player attacks
  • A series of improvements to subsequent playthroughs implemented: quest XP rewards adjusted, XP rewards for challenges adjusted, XP awarded for all quests completed in co-op
  • Purna's ammo carrying capacity increased by 50%
  • Character state from a save game can now be loaded when using the Start from Chapter option
  • New balancing option added: enemy levels can now be adjusted independently for each co-op player
  • Players respawn with more health
  • Lock pick skill level required to open a lock is now clearly indicated
  • Improved rewards in weapon crates
  • All weapon crates now contain rewards

Fixes and interface improvements

  • Fix: players are no longer left without a weapon after dropping the equipped item and healing with a medkit.
  • Fix: equipped items no longer swap mysteriously after drinking an energy drink
  • Tweak: healing with medkits from inventory works better, makes smarter choices of medkits
  • Fix: loot from dead enemies is now always identical for all co-op players
  • Fix: Purna no longer finishes her Fury with fists equipped
  • Fix: map tracking after death
  • Fix: zone info in the quarantine zone (City of Moresby)
  • Tweak: respawn point selection is now smarter

General

  • Improved stability and network performance in co-op
  • V-sync option added
  • Quest and reward fixes implemented

I don't understand the inventory complaint. I mean, you assign items to the radial menu which you bring up with Mouse 3 - what's so hard?

I play it and love it, the game has screwed me over though and I'm 12 hours into it and can't finish it. Very annoying after putting so many hours into it.

Those patch notes are far from complete. There is strong regen health now, least with Xian character, never need health packs any more. Food and drinks give nearly 2x more healing power. Thrown weapons aren't put back into weapon slots automatically any more when you pick them back up. All the changes are pushing the game into a 'get away and heal' type game now, instead of stay and fight.

Edit: spelling

No such problems with Sam B. I finished it last night.

It must be Xian only (sure it's not a skill?) as I just tested with Logan and let a zombie bring down my health...no health was regened at all. Stood there for like 2-3 minutes...

I think the food changes were good too...drinking literally 10 energy drinks to regen health was silly.

Just loaded up my Xian character (asian women right?) and let a zombie attack me, waited a min and there was no health regen so i have no idea what you're talking about.

 there is no regenerating health in Dead Island, you need to drink or eat or use medkits to gain health

I recommend disabling bloom and removing the HUD. Makes for a more immersive experience.

Its definatly better with a friend or two.

Its godo btu not great or amazing.

I think they have a good base here to make part 2 alot better. With some more variety and depth it could be a real hit imo.

Solid 7.5 or 8/10, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the coop.

I want to see it go into the city.. No more jungles. :P I want to see sequences where they have to hold a fort and defend themselves from a horde of zombies. Day and night cycles that tie into the story. Better characters, less cheesy-ness, and better writing. And of course, LESS BUGS! Judging from the ending, it looks like it will head into the city.

I'm normally very ADD with my games, I get bored extremely easily. This was not my personal case with Dead Island, I didn't have any friends to play with either.

So this coming from a guy who rarely completes games (I know it's sad), put in the extra few hours to get involved into Dead Island and you won't be sorry.

The inventory is a problem if you pick the throwing guy. I recommend that you don't pick him if the inventory annoys you. Almost every time you throw weapons, the quick weapon menu is reset or weapons are moved around.

Have you ever seen the game Fort Zombie? It's an extremely clunky indie game where you build up defenses against a zombie hoard. I'd really like something like that, done well.

That must be it, I'm using the throwing guy and don't even throw things. Its just that when all my weapons break, I have to stop, go into inventory and equip more. Should be that it just autoequips the next one.

There are skills/perks you can acquire that increase the longevity of weapons.

Also, I was running through weapons, then I started using the kick down and the finishing move and the game started playing a lot better.

Dead Island was a surprisingly awesome game. I didn't have it in me to play a new game+.. considering the campaign took 40 hours, I felt a little burned out with the game by the end of it. But the melee combat in that game was really great. I was thinking of hooking up a 360 controller the next time I play, and trying the analog melee swinging mode.

Dead Island has a slow start, but once you level up weapons break a lot less often and the game really becomes a enjoyable experience. I have spent over 60 hours and I dont regret paying the full 50 dollars for a second. I finished the campaign in 20 hours the first time, 25 hours the second time and 15 hours the second time at level 50. There are tons of side quests and secret areas to explore.

How low did you let her health get? It only regens when she is near death, like 1/8 health left or less.
