I purchased it one of the other times it has been on sale. I mainly purchased it because i'm a big fan of L4D2, and i don't think that KF even remotely holds a candle to L4D.

+1. Its very overrated imo
I think it's a great game.. I keep coming back to it. Love the weapons/weapon feel and monster variety, and yeah there's definitely some good teamwork needed to survive.
Killing Floors gunplay is way better than Left 4 Dead, and the fact that buying new weapons is based on monmey gives the player an incentive to play other than simply to "survive". Left 4 Dead is boring. While both games use a spawn system, and while both games combat encounters are almost identicle each time, Left 4 Dead just rushes the player and it becomes highly repetitive when the horde rushes.
As mentioned Killing Floor also has better team work, imo. I love playing medic and trying to heal everyone, then whipping out a gun that sound powerful and blowing them apart in slow motion.
I honestly think most people eat Left 4 Dead up because it's a Valve game and nothing more.

+2 It's very overrated. Dated graphics. Gameplay feels very dated. Very buggy and poor programming. Enemy A.I. sucks, which is like the most important aspect of a game of this type. Doesn't feel satifying to shoot down a zombie mutant. Enemy character designs look straight out of a late 90's video game. Primitive. When you aim down the sights, it would get stuck. Again, very buggy. Enemies are too easy to kill. Difficult to connect to servers and too many issues even after a couple of years of release. Disconnection. L4D series makes you move forward through the levels and defend yourself in certain areas. Killing Floor is stationery and you're always on defense. There are quite a selection of weapons but you ultimately end up using one or maybe two.Killing Floors gunplay is way better than Left 4 Dead, and the fact that buying new weapons is based on monmey gives the player an incentive to play other than simply to "survive". Because Valve games are actually very good. You can say the same thing about Bungie, BioWare, or Epic Games.[QUOTE="_Tobli_"]

There are quite a selection of weapons but you ultimately end up using one or maybe two. Hmm.. that's what I loved most about the game, it was very satisfying killing zomblers. Did you try the handcannon or the shotgun or anything? Even the lever action. Also, strangely enough I've had about 100 hours into the game and I've rarely encountered bugs. I've noticed occasional issues, but nothing huge. This is a mod team turned pro, so I don't expect super polish. If the enemies are easy to kill, don't play on normal. Try it on hard, and it'll take some work once you get past the first few waves.Because Valve games are actually very good. You can say the same thing about Bungie, BioWare, or Epic Games. Elann2008
And Left 4 Dead was an extremely repetitive game with extremely limited gameplay. The first horde rush in the first 5 minutes of play will represent the rest of the entire game across multiple maps - hell across multiple GAMES because Left 4 Dead 2 was a clone of the first game. From a gameplay standpoint Left 4 Dead has no unique situations because of the so called dynamic AI Director. Because of the way it works, spawning constant zombie attacks it's always the same thing.
In my first 10 minutes of play I realised I'd seen all there was to offer and stopped playing and realised I wasted my money. Luckily someone elsem bought me Left 4 Dead 2, but it was still just as boring. Took me less than 5 minutes to realise what I'd experience.
And honestly, all I can get from people is "Valve" and "Zombies" as to why the L4D series is great and neither of those sells it for me.

Run, Gun, Kill. What's so great about this game? I mean I don't really like L4D either, but this just feels like a mod that should've stayed a mod. I played it during the free weekend a year back and everything about the game feels clunky. I mean even the menus don't look like they have much polish to it. The ironsights on the guns are horrible, and people walk pretty slowly. The only thing I enjoyed about it was the bullet time mode, but that kind of got annoying because it happens even when you are not fighting zombies.
When you aim down the sights, it would get stuck. Again, very buggy. Elann2008
You do realize that's an actual setting? 1 click to enable ironsights, a 2nd click to disable. You can switch to holding ironsights in the Options menu.

You ever try soloing a Fleshpound? And it's weird that you call them hard to kill when comparing the game to L4D, whose zombies shred faster than wet toilet paper.

Exactly, that's such a weird complaint from someone who likes L4D. The only L4D enemy that's even slightly hard to kill is the Tank. I'm guessing he only played, like, 3 waves.LOL! L4D sucks compared to KF. L4D is so boring.morrowindnic
Opinions, yay.
To Digitalexile: Your criticism seems to lack knowledge about the element that kept making me come back to L4D2 which was the competitive multiplayer component(versus).
Playing as the special infected is a varied, intense, gameplay experience with a very viceral, and satisfying feel.
There are also other small things that put L4D2 above most other fps titles for me. Like the feedback you get from the visual impact, sound, and everything else related to the guns. Especially the shotguns are pretty much unmatched in my experience. In a game like killing floor you don't get that finely crafted differentiation.

Enemies are too easy to kill. Seriously, that one line told me you don't know what you are talking about. In L4D, enemies shred from a single shotgun shot, in KF, it takes PRECISION(something non existent in L4D) to kill an enemy, a headshot(preferably). And when was the last time L4D had an enemy that was harder to kill than the Patriarch? Oh I forgot, L4D doesn't have invisible monsters with miniguns and rocket launchers, who can grab you and tear you to shreds before you can even pull the trigger...I just want to say, for those of you complaining, I hope you realize the game was an effort created by ten people. The fact that it's being compared to Valve's baby LFD2 is tantamount to its success as an indie game, and Tripwire as an indie developer.
In itself KF doesn't sound very exciting, but when you get down to it, there is no "zombie" game that comes close in terms of sheer intensity.
Can you define horrible? The ironsights are just that, ironsights... I'm not sure what should be different about them. Bullet-time activates in situations where you or your teammates kills a zombie, so stick around your team and it'll make more sense :)What's so great about this game? The community is nicer too. KF is the ARMA of zombie games :P

Did you guys not think I would have done that? I've played everything from old school fps games to BFBC2 to Call of Duty... that was the first thing I did. I'm TELLING YOU, it's a glitch or bug... L4D doesn't even have aiming down the sights... what are you guys talking about? Nice....And I never said L4D was harder than KF, vice versa... I said... KF was not challenging enough and it was too easy FOR ME. Opinion, see what I did there? Grrr...Elann2008But you do need to play the game more to come to that opinion. Unless you know what you're doing, you won't kill a scrake or fleshpound on normal, and good luck with the Patriarch. So the game is not easy as it is on normal. Play it on hard and you may not make it past the first few waves...

I'm going to put some hour(s) into and see if I like it more. Honestly, I put in 9 hours into it and I haven't been wow'ed yet. Maybe, I've been doing something wrong or perhaps I was in groups that didn't make it any fun. Any info I should know to make connectivity to servers better and easier? I can only connect to servers 50% of the time so I feel like half of the time I spend on KF is trying to connect. And when I get in to a server, I NEVER leave because I never know if I'll ever get to play again. Thanks in advance.
That's too bad about connection issues :( Most of the time it's either the server's fault itself or you tried to join a full game and the browser didn't update correctly. I've pretty much only played with friends on our own listen servers with fun people dropping in and out from time to time so community has been absolutely ace.
You can still pub better on KF than LFD in terms of finding a group of likable people, but whatever the case your enjoyment will go up tenfold if you share the experience with friends over skype/vent, you'll be yelling all kinds of profanity and blasting heads in slow-mo. When I think of KF, the one thing I think of is last-stand-backs-to-the-wall intense.
I thought the game was fantastic when I first played it too. Now I get really bored playing it all the time.Pvt_r3dThis sums up my feelings for it.

Suicidal was not challenging enough for you compared to L4D? I don't know why you even care about L4D then since it's easy on any difficulty.
I don't know what you played but it wasn't KF.

+1. It's virtually impossible to solo a Patriarch on Hell on Earth difficulty, let alone last through 1/10 waves :DI DIDNT because I am teh best Sorry no hell on earth, that's new, and my game keeps crashing after the new updates I have loads more on my xfire profile, I am the best KF player ever, same for CSS.
Do not ever try to play with me, you will hold me back. There are only a select few people who are as leet as me.

I wish I could help you with that, but I'm not familiar with that problem. Maybe check your UPnP port mapping.. I think there's an option for it in the game, either check that it's on in the game and set on your router, or if it's on, try turning it off (on both). I vaguely recall some problem related to that. There's also Official KF forums and they be a better help than here.
Not trying to convince you to like the game, I mean if you don't like it you don't like it.But I find it a fun challenge on hard. It's been made a lot more difficult now that you can't run around with a crossbow and one-shot scrakes and fleshpounds. I should add you on Steam, myself and a couple friends still play on occasion if you feel like giving it another go.
