Keyboard and mouse allows for precision aiming. Using your thumb alone however slightly restricts your aiming (and you also have less space to move on an analogue stick). You may be more accustomed to using a controller but keyboard and mouse is significantly superior. If you dedicate some time to practising with keyboard and mouse (if you play Black Ops you could probably use Combat Simulator) then you'll see much better results once you're used to coordinating your movement on one hand and aiming on the other. I'd also argue that ergonomically a keyboard and mouse feels better (especially the keyboard), instead of clamping your hands around the controller and having a very confined space to work with they keyboard allows you to just rest your palm and the size of your "controller" is much larger.

I've mentioned it before, but I'm actually playing Black Ops online with an Xbox 360 controller and, not meaning to toot my own horn, I am doing quite well. Top 3 consistently without aim assist.. I personally feel way better gaming on the gamepad than keyboard and mouse. Everyone always says that a plus for PC gaming is the K/M combo, to which I say mmmmmkay... Thoughts?

Are you playing the Xbox 360 version or the PC version?

Doesn't mean a gamepad would feel "way better" to the next person, fella. I hate using a gamepad for shooters. I feel more at home using a keyboard and mouse setup. Does that mean I go around these boards taunting all the console gamers "Keyboard and mouse are better!!!!!"? No, I don't because it doesn't mean the setup I use feels just as cozy to every other person. Geeze, people are so naive.

Well a lot of people on these boards react badly when you mention gamepads. Like try asking if a upcoming PC game is going to have gamepad support and then watch the hateful responses like "Just use a KB and M retard Its better." or "If you want to use a gamepad go play with the little kids on consoles."

I like using gamepads for PC gaming on my flat screen while relaxing on my sofa and a lot of PC gamers on these forums act like I'm Satan because I do that.

I like controllers, but nothing beats a mouse for aiming.

I would have agreed if you did not mention an FPS as an example. I can see why controllers would be preferable to the K&M combo for games like NFS: Hot Pursuit and GTA but for an FPS or even an RTS, a controller doesn't even come close to a mouse and a keyboard.

What's your point? You come in the top three with a controller versing kiddies but dead last when using a KB/M and competing against PC gamers?

1. I like the challenge of using a controller. Sure the mouse is more precise, but using a joystick is a whole different skill set. There is a sense of accomplishment when you are better than everyone else.

2. I don't like carpal tunnel. After years of KB/M my left hand is like a claw.

3. Most importantly I like chillin on my sofa with my feet kicked back playing on my flatscreen with surround sound--not something that is easily accomplished with a KB/M.

I like both, but both have their advantages.

this... i was a champion of kb/m for years, ever since team fortress classic... but ivefound, very recently, thatplaying with a gamepad on xbox live is a lot more fun. it feels more realistic, on pc im bascially just pointing and clicking.

Black Ops..... (Oh man....) Try Quake 3/ Unreal Tournament or Counter-Strike with a controller, then tell me why it's better than the keyboard & mouse.

FPS with a controller. It's like controlling a tank. Mouse has much, much more naturally head movement. So much better, though it's not to say first person games aren't very playable on a controller.

Have you never seen pc multiplayers where they do 360 controller versus kb+m.. they get slaughtered everytime Also cross platform gameplay allowing multiplayer across ps3/360/pc was abandoned because pc users absolutely slaughtered console players. Like someone above gave a simple example, whats faster browsing the internet.. controller or keyboard+mouse? Says it all really

Sigh....here goes: If you're just beginning to get into gaming with the KB/M, it's going to take you at least 1 to 3 years to fully master your controls. I'm not saying you won't be good w/ a KB/M in one year, but you'll be constantly improving.

Hence why plenty of people don't prefer KB/M...it's not something you'll pick up and master, for the lack of a better word. You'll need to customize, and see what's best for you on a KB/M combo.

The same goes for pc gamers and controllers. Many of us find it inconvenient to have to learn how to use a controller after years and years of pc gaming.

All I see is talk of better aiming with the mouse, how about all the advantages of the kb?

Here are the 360 controls. Cant jump and turn at the same time. Cant reload and turn at the same time. Cant crouch and turn at the same time. Cant switch weapons and turn at the same time. Cant switch to attachment and move at the same time. Cant activate killstreak and move at the same time. Cant pull out equipment and move at the same time. Cant lean.

A - Jump
X - Reload and Action Button
B - Crouch (Hold to go Prone)
Y - Switch weapons
Right Bumper - Letahl Grenade
Right Trigger - Fire Weapon
Left Bumper - Special Grenade
Left Trigger - Aim down scope
Start - Pause The Game
Back - Shows Score
Left D-Pad - Pulls out Undermounted Weapon
Right D-Pad - Activates Killstreak or special option in campaign.
Up D-Pad - Pulls out Equipment (ex. Claymore)

If you make a clone of yourself, and give him a controller - You can have fun a$$ raping him for a couple of hours, then your clone will probably want to switch over to a mouse and keyboard, and the playing field will be levelled.
