How good are the Geforce 8 series laptop graphics cards for gaming. I am planning on getting a laptop that has a 8600 in it. Now I don't want to play the top graphics games or even play them at full I just want something that will last me until I finish university in 4 or 5 years and not run mega slow. Note: I know full well a desktop is better then a laptop for gaming but when you need a laptop for University and don't have enough for both a laptop and gaming computer.
Humm 2 years… then that should mean about 3 years for me I have an agp geforce 6200 in my really rubbish desktop(2ghz non dc 700ram) and I have only this year run into a games that run to slow to play yet I am not sure it's the 62 making that run slow as other people have been able to run the game fine with one. So it may just last me long enough and lets hope that by that time I will be able to make my own games. I am not really looking for the faster card just one that will actually run stuff the 79 has shader 3.0 and 86 has 4.0 right?
The card is pretty good, if your not into playing games that much. I have it within my dell 1521 laptop, like it a lot.You can play pretty much every game out there right now with it will struggle with games such as Bioshock, Crysis, and other new games.
If you're going with an 8600M, try to get a GDDR3 version as opposed to GDDR2. The faster memory helps a ton now, and I'm sure will come in handy down the line.
The only laptops that come with an 8600GT GDDR3 are the Asus G1S, V1S, and MacBook Pro, but more should be on the way.
