Looking at this laptop: http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/438189/ACER-5920G-302G25HN/tab/specification

Anyone got any ideas how well I will be able to run Oblivion and Counter Strike Soure? I chose this laptop because of the 8600M GT ... all others in my price bracket seem to have an 8400M GS which appears (to my un-enlightened self) to be significantly inferior.

Also could anyone say which is the better setup (for performance and graphical quality in games mentioned above) out of:

Core 2 Duo T7300 2ghz + 2gb ram + 8600M GT (the one in the link)

versus

AMD Turion 64x2 Dual Core TL 60 2 ghz + 3gb ram + 8400M GS

All replies greatly appreciated.

I would go with the 8600M GT, bc like you stated, the 8400 is quite a bit inferior to it. You should see much better performance from the 8600, and I'm not sure but I don't think you will see much of a performance increase in-game with that extra gig of RAM, but I could be wrong.

Just realised the card in the laptop I linked to is actually a 8600M GS and not GT ... will this make much difference?

My laptop, similiar to the C2D+8600MGT, runs CS:S maxed @ 1900x1200 (no AA). I don't know about oblivion.

Don't get the 8400GS... it's not designed to run games.
