Laptop recovery disc/ Windows boot up problem

Hi

I am in a bit of a pickle over how to proceed, my latop has gone barmy-it wont load to windows login screen. I downloaded a LOT of updates at once as my dad only uses it every once in a while. On top of that i removed mcafee (remembering to close down and reboot before proceeding) and installed kaspersky 2009 security suite at the same time as i downloaded the windows files. Now when every i load windows i get a configure updates stage 3 of 3 98%, Do not shut down your computer, And then it shuts down and restarts beginning the process all over again.

Im running an X50Rseries asus laptop, which has a recovery disc I ran the disc and it gives me 3 options-

*recover windows to first partition only

*recover windows to entire HD

*recover windows to entire HD with 2 partition

Could someone recommend an easy way for me to fix this problem or even explain what the options mean in real terms

That sounds like the common SP3 problem...i think a windows repair would do the job fine for you.

This laptop didn't come with a windows installion disc and i dont have a 32 bit vista premium disc to hand. Is there somewhere i can go to download what i need?duderino_23

if u recover to the first partition only (presuming u had two partitions already), anything on the second partition will be safe, but hte first part' will be erased and reinstalled with windows.
