I'm having trouble deciding between LED and LCD TV for my PS3, it seems that LED is a bit too bright and the colors are 'unrealistic' and too bold. I don't want sore eyes after an extended play on the TV. What do you think? Which is better for gaming?

I would suggest LCD. I agree with you on the colors on LED TVs. I mean it would be good for movies and watching TV but personally I prefer a darker color when gaming. Easier on the eyes.

So calibrate the display and never use dynamic/vivid or similar settings.

LED is an LCD TV. It just uses LED for the backlight vs CFL backlights found on most LCD's. The benefit of LED based LCD's is only apparent in LED sets with localized dimming where it can help LCD's produce much better native contrast ratios that can approach plasma levels. That being said, poorly implemented localized dimming brings on its own sets of problems and can be quite distracting to the eye.

unfortunately LED technology is not at his maturity yet. As you say the lights are too bright (which makes scenes look like cartoon, more than realism) and the aftereffect performance is poor vs lcd. ( After an explosion , you can detect the after glow bright spots even after the scene has passed.

I don't think the price gap is worth the added benefits. Especially not with the added flaws that they bring. If I was planning to purchase a TV right now I would stick to standard LCD or Plasma.

All right then, didn't know that before, thanks for the info! I guess I'll stick to lcd then.

I had a samsung led tv for a couple of days and ended up taking it back due to horrible backlighting problems. Picked up a sony xbr9 and couldn't be happier.

For gaming i would only be worried about lag, which is why i would not choose either lcd or led/lcd. But i will say my new Samsung LED monitor kicks some major butt. Its only 23 inches and does not have any latancy issues like the 56in LED i tried out last year.
