LED or Plasma for next gen gaming?

I'm looking to get a new TV for my gaming room before the next gen systems come out. I'm reading a lot of places that Plasma is great for gaming, but im open to any suggestions of bands and specs of tvs. I'm looking to spend under $1,000 and also keep the size of he TV between 45-50 inches.  My main TV is a 55 inch LED which is good for gaming, but IMO to big to stare at for hours.

Plasmas eventually lose their color and brightness. The very dim TVs in stores are usually plasmas.

Plasmas have better contrast and deeper blacks but are generally less bright so may not be ideal in a bright room.

If I;m going to go LED. What are the ideal specs for it 240Hz what a good lagg time for a tv less than 20ms? Plasma is what a few of my friends game on and they swear by them.

Just remember that most specs you read will essentially be made up. Interpolation only adds input lag so is useless for gaming.

The only ways to know that one is truely 120Hz is to either get a 3D TV (since 120Hz is necessary for them to work) or to attach a computer to its HDMI port and see if the Windows setting will go as high as 120Hz. As for Contrast Ratio, most of them are 1,000:1. Don't believe anything else.

EDIT: Okay, so my number for contrast ratio at the end was wrong. Go tell the local police about it. What's important is that manufacturers lie about it with horribly exaggerated numbers so that it's impossible to tell what the real contrast ratio is without reading some very good reviews.

Yes it looks smother but nothing better than TRUE 120hz via dual-link dvi

Yeah the ST60 seems  the best route to take. Mind you this Tv is stictly for gaming and possibly some movies (Netflix ect) Any idea on how this TV or plasms are in general on the eyes? ill be sitting maybe 6-8 feet away from it.

Only two things I'd worry about are:

* input lag

* motion resolution

none of this 60-2400hz crap.

you have to really screw up the settings to make it look 'washed out'. There was a time when plasma TV's had burn in issues that would discourage gaming on them, but those days are gone. Nowadays plasma just dominates LED in every aspect.... Price point, motion, side viewing angle , deep black levels that LED's are still nowhere close to.. the only thing LED's are good at is misinforming the naive public about what matters in a TV. Are plasma's reflective ? yes.. because they have real glass screens... just like old CRT TV's.. if you could play games on those .. you can play them on a plasma. Does the picture fade.. eventually .. just like everything else , wear and tear effects every item.. 20 years from now you may have to replace it.
