Haven't bought a pc game in a while and I'm going to buy one today. Which one is better?

I am afraid thats a hard one. I know most people will say there are hundreds of better RPG's than Mass Effect, but I still loved the game. I think it was the way it looked and the characters. Left 4 Dead has a very "arcade" feel too it, which is what I loved. The game is frighteningly easy to learn but also frightengly hard to master. There also also 4 difficulty levels, so the game can range from it taking 100 hits to die and friendly fire doing no damage (easy) to dieing in 5 hits and friendly fire taking 1/3 of your health away (expert). No, I havn't completed expert mode yet.
easy choice actually.
What do you prefer? Online or offline? If you prefer online, get L4D. The singleplayer portion of that game is non existant, but online, it's pure awesome fun. If you prefer games with a deep storyline and regular, proper singleplayer campaign, get Mass Effect.
Wow, you couldn't really have chosen two more different games.
Mass Effect is very much a story-driven game, and you can play for a while without encountering any action. It's huge and makes a good show of being non-linear, but once you've got over the sheer ambition of the game, there's really not that much to it beyond discovering the next piece of the story.
Left 4 Dead, on the other hand, is all about the action, and is a great (if short) adrenaline shot. There really is no story to speak of, and if you're not into the whole online co-operative thing, then you're not going to find much to draw you back to the game.
Neither game really did it for me, and with no demo versions available as far as I'm aware, you'll just have to decide which style appeals most to you - story or instant action.
