I just thought I'd read the Left 4 Dead forums at steampowered.com and people won't stfu about "SDK" and "MM2". Unfortunately, everybody seems to assume that everybody else knows what these terms mean. I Google searched them and even went to the Left 4 Dead Wiki and could find nothing on what these terms are. The only thing the Wiki said about it was that the SDK would come out this Spring, but it of course didn't bother to explain what the hell the SDK even IS. So... wtf is the SDK and wtf is MM2 and why is it so hard to get this information?

SDK=Software Development Kit and most valve fans know what it is, thats why everyone kinda just throws around the word as its in most of there games it allows users to mod there game and make maps for it in and eiaser and more accessible way basically

People at the L4D fourms are all talking about it because its coming out for L4D soon meaning many new maps and mods and such.

SDK is the program that modders use to make their own levels with. MM2 I do not know what that is.

SDK is the toolset that valve uses to make their games. It includes a map editor called hammer and some animation tools. Its free and released for games like half-life and TF2 but L4D's toolset isn't released yet.

oh I forgot to answer the second. MM2 is matchmaking 2. They are supposed to be developing better player matching and probably ruin clan pubstomping :(

MM2 = Matchmaking 2.0 which means a better system from lobby to making a game including I believe the ability to join with 3 other guys then search for another team of 4 ready to go, eliminating the need to pub stomp.

So what's the use of this if you don't have 3 other people to join up with?

I think it just improves the searching for random groups and servers to play on, which is still pretty poorly done in L4D.

If I understand what you said before correctly, this matchmaking system would allow two groups of 4 people (I assume two groups of four people who know each other) to fight against each other. A bit like clan matches. Or are you saying this matchmaking system would entirely randomize the players? If the former, then how is that helpful for those without the luxury of clanmates or friends to join in a group of four?

it does both, the new mm2 will have 4v4 support where you group with 4 inclusive to battle another 4 guys that are alreaddy set up in a group. The other part of the patch is also going to improve what is already in the game, which is randomly joining games and lobbies for people who don't have groups to join already. Thats what I understand I'm not sure if both 4v4 and improvements to the existing system will come at the same time but that is what I understand.

So what's to prevent four friends (read: pubstompers) from joining a group against four players who were "set up together" with this matchmaking system, but do not know each other and so are really no better off than random players in a pub like we have now? I'm just afraid this matchmaking system is going to end up catering only to those who have friends to join up with. i.e. four people who are friends against another four people who are friends while leaving people like me who don't have any friends out of luck and out of a decent game to play.

nothing is going to stop the pubstomping as far as I read. all they are doing is making an alternate option so pubstompers can play against pubstompers more easily. Some pubstompers might be well bored of winning all the time. I think it's a better idea than doing nothing, but pubstomping will still exist.

These terms refer to mythical creations Valve has long since promised, yet failed to deliver.

Too busy making sequels I guess.
