Pretty much looks like what you think it is. A very old school Might and Magic styled RPG, with some very sharp production values.skrat_01I love Heroes of Might and Magic, no idea what Might and Magic is about. :P Game has me intrigued, though!
Getting the Might and Magic 1-6 pack on GoG.com is a good way to see what some old school RPGs are all about. It's a great deal for the amount of fun you can get out of these games.
I knew about this game and, having played tons of similar RPGs like:
.
Warriors of Legend (not that similar, but with the same spirit, so to speak)
Dungeon Master 1 & 2 (the first one is unforgettable, one of the best immersion ever)
Realms of Arkania trilogy (the second one is the most faithful RPG of all times, together with Darklands)
Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 (the first one is one of my favorite game ever)
Hexx (mediocre)
Dungeon Hack
Eye of The Beholder trilogy (the second is in my top ten list, simply epic)
Legend of Valour (blergh)
The Lands of Lore: Throne of Chaos (the second best game I ever played)
TES: Arena
Ravenloft 1 & 2 (Ravenloft 1: Sthrad's Possession being the very best game I have ever played in my life and will NEVER forget)
Menzoberranzan
Thunderscape
Anvil of Dawn
.
And others that I won't remember now, I didn't even blink before pre-ordering Legend of Grimrock!
.
Good Lord, I almost can't believe I will have a new, fresh game just like these gems above that were the time of my life in terms of gaming!
Legend of Grimrock for the win!! o/
.
P.S.: I still have most of them (some floppy disks, other CDs) with box, manual and everything. ;)
Since Ishtar, Eye of The Beholder, M&M 6 are among my favourite games, this game is one of my big looking forward to right now, along with Risen 2. Hardly any interesting RPGs at this time, (Never got ME3) so this makes me a happy pc gamer. Pre ordered. I'm definitely printing out the map and going all out on map making, really a nice way to get immersed.

You mean Ishar; I hated -- all 3 of them. M&M 6 was wonderful. By far the very best of the series.
Great list, played almost all of those :D I don't have any of my old floppies though...they either stopped working or I threw them out at some point. Kinda wished I kept most of them for nostalgia sake, but I was pretty young back then.I knew about this game and, having played tons of similar RPGs like:

While I've only played a fraction of those games and have read and watched far more, that's damn respectable.skrat_01
Believe me, that was the golden era of games (strong nostalgia ON) :)

I swear on my mother, I still keep my old Pentium 266 with its Samsung 14" monitor here!
Buuuuut... I'm not sure it still works! Abandonware site like Home of The Underdogs and DOSBox made things a lot easier,,, ;)
.
Edit: Plus, on Gog.com I bought what I could (what I found there) again, just to have them optimized for newer systems; not to mention that I hate having to run games with the CD on the drive (they are pieces of collection, don't want to risk having them scratched) and some of those games have that old protection like "enter the fifth word on the page 'x', line 'z' of the manual"... really a PITA. :)

Ishar of course. Hate is such a strong word! My main favorite is the second in the series. Can't beat Eye of the beholder though.
M&M 6 is by far the game i have played the most during my many years as a pc gamer. I think i have played through it 10 or 15 times, crazy i know. But man i love that game! What i wouldnt do to play another M&M game by jon van caneghem. (Disregard the IXth in the series.) Kickstarter anyone? :)

I agree, sorry. I didn't like them. I understand that when someone says something like that about a game you simply loved, it hurts your feelings. :)
Kickstarter you say is Wasteland 2? Here in our local forums we have separate "official" threads for each game (so everything about each one is discussed in its own thread) and also official "preview threads".
Guess who opened the "Wasteland 2 preview" thread... ;)
So I am responsible for updating the info and such.

You can find on GOG like someone pointed out already, or you can just see videos on Youtube, but to give you an idea, think of something like:
1st Person Diablo + Baldur's Gate(or Da:O) + Elder Scrolls + a Colorful art style
Now you have a good idea of what it's like.

The Nostalgia is strong with this one. /Vader-voice
Great list of games there, including some of my all-time favourites (EOB, UU 1 & 2, LOL:TOC). I'd love to see that entire list on GOG.com in the future. I've already repurchased what I can from there.
As for Legend of Grimrock, it was a no-brainer for me. Can't wait to play it, and I hope it's successful enough for the devs to make a sequel.

Good work sir! I kinda get the feel that "old school" pc gaming is roaring back again these days. Good times indeed.

That is exactly what I hope the most, that the game is a HUGE success.
We old-school gamers HAVE TO show the devs our full support if the game is half as good as it seems to be. It would mean a great advance towards the return to form for the genre.

Thanks.
So it seems. A multitude of orphans of the golden era are more than tired of graphics, graphics, graphics (oh, Crysis generation...), but FINALLY we are experiencing a reaction from people who can actually do something about it: the devs.
Hopes extremely high!!
The best place to pre-order Legend of Grimrock if you prefer it on Steam is here:
http://www.grimrock.net/store/
One hundred percent of the money will go directly to the devs and you will be sent a code to activate the game on Steam.
If you don't like Steam, then Gog.com is a good alternative, as the OP says.

Do you know if they are planning to release physical copies of this game? It would look pretty good in a big box with a fat manual, maps and stuff.
If the game has a Steam key then surely not 100% of the money goes to the developers, right? Valve is getting something out of it!The best place to pre-order Legend of Grimrock if you prefer it on Steam is here:

I bet Steam gets a piece of the pie. I doubt they get to use their platform for free, only fair imo.

Oh, that would be far way better than great, but not that I know of. Maybe if all of we old-schoolers show how we can unite and show the contemporary gaming industry that yes, we do can give a hell of a support, the devs will get the necessary to be able to launch physical copies from then on.
Hopes high, yeah. Definitely!
.
I got a real Eye Of Beholder vibe from it and that is a good thing. God I do miss these games and would like play some enhanced versions of Ravenloft ones.
GreyViper
Oh my I almost can't believe it! FINALLY I heard from someone else what I dream the most: enhanced, new remakes of the Ravenloft series! The most immersive and atmospheric games EVER!
Congrats!
And thanks.

Oh I have quite fond memories towards the games you listed. I guess I can be glad that Realms of Arkania got some conclusion with Drakensang Series., but I do miss the awsome soundtrack from Shadows of Riva.
Anway another game to must buy list.

Took a look, where have I been? Living under a rock? Ok, I rarely come here, but still... Place of my dreams!
This Legend of Grimrock is a must-have, hands down!

It's the only part I didn't want to understand! The only reason anybody should bother coming to GameSpot is for the community. That's been my reason for years now as everything else is a joke. Even the glitchy forums this community uses are a joke but what are we to do?And thanks. :P

Agree. Gabe likes to eat (an obvious statement) and of course will want a piece of the cake. The cake is not a lie. :D
But seriously now, of course you are right, but when buying it directly from the devs they will profit more.
My copy is already activated on Steam (cancelled the previous one on GoG, I didn't know Steam would launch it as well).

Game Banshee, which has their own review up, also has a brief summary of some of the other reviews, including the RPS one, that are popping up here and there around the net. So far the reviews seem really positive.

So if I do preorder the game, what do I get apart from the 20% discount? They mentioned "early access" to certain goodies but does that mean I get access to them before the game comes out or before everybody else even after the game has launched?

I got the game from there website... they give you a link to all the goodies (mp3 of hte theme song, Wallpapers, Manual, World Map, Graph Paper, Photos and Art pictures).
Then you also get a standalone version of the game on release day and when you buy the game you get a serial key for the STEAM version of the game which you can redeem on steam right now (gotta wait till next week when the game gets released though to play it).
