I finally gave in and preordered the game. Haven't played any traditional dungeon crawlers, but this looks worth playing.

Another review.

Destructoid: http://www.destructoid.com/review-legend-of-grimrock-225514.phtml

Final Verdict:
9.5

Superb: 9s are a hallmark of excellence. There may be flaws, but they are negligible and won't cause massive damage to what is a supreme title in its *genre*.

Is it for sure coming out? I just noticed it vanished from the coming soon tab on Steam and the same thing happened with Binary Domain and it's still not out. I already preordered it so hopefully.

Heard a lot of good things about this game, and now that reviews are raving about it, I think I'm gonna go ahead and buy it off GOG. Just not right now. Too addicted to Civ V, and just installed Mass Effect 3.

Similar to other RPGs? It's not similar to any of the new RPGs released within the lat 5-10 years and most gamers probably haven't even ever played an RPG like Grimrock.

Im trying to activate my code in steam, got it from the developers page, but steam wont let me... anyone else have this issue?

Yea apparently steam hasn't unlocked the game yet, they're aweful at releasing stuff on time, but if you bought it from the company you can still download and play the DMR free version right now until steam gets it's act together.

Steam version is not up yet, but there is a DRM FREE standalone version of the game for everyone who preordered on the companies website. It will be in the email you got that gaeve you yoru steam key! Now you have the option to download standaloen DRM FREE versino of the game.

Which is very nice as the steam version is not unlocked yet, so atleast we have something to play while steam gets worked out!
Ive played for abotu 30-35 misn so far on the standalone version and its a blast so far!

If you are waiting for steam to unlock the game, go check your email from before and you can download standalone version.

Just download the DRM free version from the Humble site until Steam gets their "stuff" together.

Worked for me when I put the key in last week.

BUT.. steam is having a few issues right now unlocking the game,etc.. so it does not surprise me that you cannot enter it atm. Hopefully its worked out soon.

Until then you can download the standalone version of the game from the email/page that you got your steam key from. Can play that versino until steam has it up.

I think it's just more to the fact Steam seems to always have issues with games on release. Almost every game I got right on release was delayed a few hours for some mysterious reason.

Yup, its def not the first time this has happened.

Id say about 10-15 of my 200+ games did not get released on the exact time they expected it to. Things happen! Sometimes dont get everything you want at the exact time.

Im glad this game has a standalone version we can play though while we wait for steam!

I am currently on level 2, plaing on normal difficulty, default party, oldschool mode on.

I really like the game. It is dense, na compact. I especially apreciate combat. In both Witcher 2 and Mass Effect combat was driving me near rage-quit (rage uninstall in case of W2). Here it is both rewaring, but not overly difficult. About right i would say.

Speaking of Mass Effect - i bought a cheap copy of it some 2 moths ago. I dint complete it, - i got bored, besides reattemting every arcade ellement for 10 times drives me mad. Value for money, and first impression - Grimrock wins over ME many times over. Combat wise - neithe ME or W2 has chances.

While not perfect - i have big doubts about wisdom of design choices where it cames to skills, and my rogue seems just useless, this game has so far really won my hart. A love for the first sight is something no game has managed to achieve for looong time.

So far 8/10, and is still very promising.

Game is wonderful...better than I had anticipated honestly. Only complaint is combat, but honestly even that is pretty good once you get the hang of it. The dungeon is awesome though and exploring and finding all the secrets is really challenging. Some really nice puzzles already and only am on level 4 right now. Really makes me miss the way a lot of RPG's used to be designed...no endless boring cut scenes and pointless dialog. Just your group of characters and an awesome dungeon to explore and survive. Finding all the secret areas and even finding the notes from previous escapes is really cool...game has so much atmosphere almost rivals Arx Fatalis.

If you get it directly from the devs website you get a steam key and a stand alone copy if you dont want to use steam. I assume the stand alone copy is DRM free. Also the developers get all of the money.

Something I really remember from these types of rpgs from when I was young is that when creating characters/your party its VERY important. I am on my 6th party now and finally got a great mix!

Alot of rpgs these days character/party creation does not matter much if at all, but in this game and amny of the older rpgs like this creating your crew was/is VERY important. I always seems to spend tons of time trying to figure out the best balance,etc..

I am at lv 3, trying to beat through spider. Uh, they really are tough customers.Good i have managed to find some anti venom stuff.

I am loving this game. Being relativly simple has allowed for it bo be really well designed. As i sad, money for pure fun, it is much better then modern RPGs.

I hope more people will check it out.

Spread the word. Positive word of mouth advertising will help the developers make more money and thus produce another game of its kind!
