How can they put console games above Pc games when they deal with pc hardware.

Well, it's called "Video Games: the 12 best holiday bets"... not the 12 best PC gaming bets.
Get over it.
Apparently, PC gaming is dying.entropyecho
Indeed. The Gamestop near me annouced that they will cease carrying PC games as of Jan 09. If that doesn't herald the death of PC gaming, I don't know what does.

I'm in denial.
PC gaming is still on top!

If PC gaming is dying (and I can convince them of it), maybe they will let me purchase their entire PC inventory for $9.99.[QUOTE="Johnny_Rock"][QUOTE="entropyecho"]Apparently, PC gaming is dying.Swiftstrike5

If PC gaming is dying (and I can convince them of it), maybe they will let me purchase their entire PC inventory for $9.99. they will send their games to the storage area for online ordersWell the PC user base has grown.. But the problem is most of the PC users that have joined the PC platform in the last 8 or whatever years, know little to nothing about PC gaming. instead of the PC acquiring a nice steady influx of PC literate people, we've gotten the total opposite. We've gained masses of IT illiterate people, granmas and grandads/porn stars/actors/FedEx lorry drivers/bikers/"normal people"... The total pit of society really (j/k :)). Most of these people can't even work their blue ray player properly. Nevermind install and update their PCs with hardware capable of handling PC games. So instead the main target spot for the PC for develoeprs has changed from "great looking GPU intensive, complex PC games" to "low hardware requirements, point and click games".
Consoles on the other hand are of course very user friendly.. People are obviously in demand for the type of games the PC is known for. FPS/RPG etc.. And so developers have cleaverly put these games onto the console and cut out all the hassle of owning and maintaining a PC for those who cant. PC gaming will not die but I think PC gaming as we know it will die. iD software and Epic have already stated they wish to concentrate more on consoles. And I believe most developers who have not already done so will do the same soon (even Blizzard unfortunately).

to the average person they can get a PC capable of browsing the net, playing videos and completing their work related tasks for probably under 100$.. Where as a good gaming rig costs four or more times that. A PC gaming rig just doesn't have mainstream appeal.. Unless you're really really into PC gaming your just not going to want to spend half a grand or more on a PC when you can get a PC for 1/5 of the price that does everything but play demanding games.
So yes everyone can get a gaming PC built for themselves. But to the general populace it's just not worth the $$. And unfortunately the general populace is what we have on the PC platform at the moment. they have little to no interest in PC hardware or gaming video cards and the like. They just want their PC for work, Youtube and occasional web based game.
[QUOTE="Gamerkat"]Pc gaming is growing, the downloads keep growing. Most people buy games from steam or sites like d2d. Stores want to capitalize on the large market of immature console fanboys, and non-knowledgable console fans. But thats not all console players, there are people who can have fun on a handful of games with friends, and not want to build a pc. That percentage is still small compared to the % of idiot console players.Agent_KaliaverI Hate PC gamers.... i won't even break the group apart with the people who are complete douche-bags to console gamers and those that arn't because why should i. Its not like any PC gamers do. This is about what every person that posts something like you (except you did make the note that not all are so i give you props, but then take it away because the fact that you HAD to post what you did) sounds like. Now if i meant what i said i would be in the douche-bag list also because i play Console AND PC games. But honestly... i have been through about 3 threads on the PC forum and each of them have people bashing console gamers and what not (and probably won't get modded.. which is BS because i can say "hey" and get my post removed on any other section in the forum). And why? Why do people have to do this repeatedly? It anything it makes them sound more immature than the 30 billion 7 year olds playing Halo 3 right now.... Oh and i love how when i play it get better/less annoying people than CoD4 (if you were a console gamer you would find that crazy). I do play PC games so i come to this forum, but i am tired of seeing **** get thrown at console gamers left and right because they use something called an Xbox 360 or PS3 to play their games and not something called a Personal Computer (yes... that is what PC stands for... i know its amazing... That is why i hate everyone who talks about how Macs arn't PCs and how PCs are better or that they should get a PC for gaming....). Does that make you better than someone who plays video games a different way? Thats basically the dumbest type of discrimination you can think of. Also i started my video games days with the computer. Good ole Doom and Wolfenstein 3D bringing back memories, but then i switched over to consoles with Halo:CE (ok i played a mix before that, but it was really CS every day and sometimes Final Fantasy 10). Since then i have been huge into console games. I own an Xbox 360 and a Wii (selling the Wii by the way... Great console, but crap-tastic developers. Even Nintendo is being crap-tastic) and i have bought many a game for them. Recently i upgraded my PC and have become a mix breed with about half console and half PC. And never have i looked down upon the PC gamers or the console gamers until recently. And to be honest it is more than PC gamers that i look down upon. If this gets modded then i am just going to repost it because this took time. Yes gamespot... i will repost it so ban me if need be. I just love how you guys mod because i am sure your just out to get me now. Thinking about it i may have got modded for "flaming" and in the post flamed myself also.... I'm all for consoles and the exclusives they have, but if you don't play pc games ur a n00b imo.

I agree, the topic creator sounds like the typical pc gamer, PC gaming isn't god. It's not the be all and end all of gaming, but it's as good as you can get. What can you do on a console that you can't do much better on a PC? Nothing, and the reason behind that is because at their core consoles are just stripped down graphics cards hooked up to your TV. The advantage to consoles is that they're cheap and easy to get into, meaning they are only *better* for people that have a tighter budget for gaming. A toyota camry is a great car for people who can't afford or don't want to pay for a BMW.. doesn't change the fact that in every tangible sense of the word the BMW is better. It both outperforms and looks better, it just costs a bit more. Monetary value is subjective, technical performance isn't. I don't hate consoles or people that use them, I just dislike the environment they've created. I've always preferred the PC for its customization and raw power, and now Devs are starting to gravitate towards the easy money markets of consoles, which devalues my investment (gaming rig) and results in poorer quality games.Apparently, PC gaming is dying.entropyecho

lol no its because people that are buying pc games are doing so by direct download, and by buying the games off of amazon.com and ebay
most of your console games are younger than pc gamers... and typically your older crowd will look for a way to save money, because most kids have their parents pay for the game, so they dont care the cost, and most kid gamers are on console.
thats why gamestop is going to stop selling them...
pc gaming isnt dead. or dying and never will...
consoles are just getting the spotlight at the moment.
mainly because gaming has never been marketed the way it has with the "next generation" - the xbox360, ps3 and wii.
also consoles are becoming more and more like pc..
1. ninetendo 64- memory expansion.
2. xbox360 elite, with hdmi introduction to a system that didnt have it.... removable harddrive,
3. ps3 ... you can install your own OS.... you can replace the harddrive with your own laptop harddrive.
so i wouldnt be suprised if the next batch of consoles have upgradable GPU's...

$100 dollars for a capable computer... FOR THE AVERAGE POPULATION? are you nuts? It costs 100 dollars for the OS ALONE.. and I don't think people running linux and builing their own pc are the 'average person using a computer'. 500 for a new decent laptop is a good price.. and the cheapest mac computer is never under $1000.
Then tack on the cost of the console to that... the cost for extra controllers... a good looking TV .... more expensive games... pay to play online services in some cases... etc. And bam for the priceof the console you can easily play computer games at the same price quite reasonably. It only probably takes like 3-4 hours of learning how to build a computer to actually learn... but you tell somebody you build you own computer they're all like 'WOW I COULD NEVER DO THAT!'
I do think the whole Console player bashing is getting not just a bit old but also rather infantile.
I've been a PC Gamer for almost as long as there's been PC games, I prefer to play on a PC. I do own an X360 though I don't use it that often. But at the end of the day it's a matter of preference. You can argue that a high end PC have more horse power and as such can handle better graphics and larger chunks of data.. so f'in what?!
If you prefer to play on a PC, do that. If you prefer to play on a console, do that.. and ignore any dim-witted idiot who'd think less of you for playing on the platform of your choice.

Well, I was being a tad sarcastic with that statement. However, if GTA IV is any indication, I think more and more developers will put games out on consoles and then make horrible, poorly-optimized ports to the PC. Though I don't think PC gaming is dying, I think it has passed its Golden Era. The explosion of piracy, thanks in large part to p2p, and the popularity of console gaming have attributed to a decrease in quality in PC titles. This is of course coming from someone new to PC gaming; I could be way off the mark.
Also, to the poster belittling a console gamer for his platform of choice - let's put an end to that; it's pretty juvenile.
