I had a G5 and it was a great mouse but the laser sensor stopped working. I play mostly FPS and MMORPG's. I've been looking at the Steelseries Xai and while it seems to have received alot of praise, it does cost $100. Any good recommendations? I also like to use a cloth mousepad as it feels comfortable to me.

I recently just got the Logitech MX518 optical gaming mouse on newegg for about $35. While i havnt had it for long im loving how it feels and how smoothly it runs. I think its just a pretty good mouse for the price.

Razer Deathadder. Took me a while to convince myself to buy one and I do not regret it one bit. It's a palm-rest mouse, for larger hands, and non-clawers. If you're a clawer, you might want to check out Logitech's line up, specifically the G9/G9x. It's less than $50 at Amazon.com.

I've been looking at the G500 but have heard alot of bad things about it (It does not track well on cloth pads, the sensor is horrible, bad sensor location, etc). Any input on the G500? I've also read about negative and positive acceleration.

I got an Mx518 years ago at target without knowing much about it. It was probably the best off-handed purchase I've ever made. It feels kind of like what a sunset over the ocean would feel like if you could feel a sunset over the ocean.

Go get a Razer lachesis I use that on a cloth just fine. Yeah, dont take customer reviews too seriously just go buy it retail and have a feel for it. If you dislike it just return it.

I've had a few Razor mice in the past and a Logitech M5. The Logitech is still great and the Razor mice are great. If I were you I'd check out the Razor site:

It has a pretty decent Avago laser. I use mine on a cloth pad, I have no issues. The sensor location hasn't caused me any problems. I've read about the acceleration "issue." Feelings tend to be mixed. I've noticed nothing out of the ordinary rhat hinders my gaming performance. The only major gripe I have is the mouse wheel. I like the smooth scrolling, but when it's in ratchet mode the wheel's ratchet is not stiff enough. When attempting to press the middle mouse button it is easy to accidentally scroll. In an online shooter that is often a fatal mistake. If I had to buy a mouse right now I'd honestly go for the MX 518, or a Zowie EC 1 or 2, If I felt like spending more money I'd probably get a Steelseries Xai. Also, PureTrak is about to release their mouse, the PureTrak Valor. Preorders have begun. Looks like an interesting mouse.
