I alredy have Dragon Age and Mass Effect1,2 so count that out. No JRPG or maybe if they are really really good.

You could look into trying the demo for Drakensang. The starting area is the Demo out there, is a bit boring and the game gets a lot better as you go along. You just need to push past the first 4 hours or so of game play before things start to pick up and become more interesting.
Also you could check out the Gothic series. Gothic 1 and 2 have been out for quite a while and the graphics might be a bit dated for your taste, but I loved the story and how things felt for the first two. Gothic 3 is newer, but it's not as good as the first two. I hear that Gothic 4 is coming out in October. So it might be a series to look into.
Drakensang is really really cheap now as well if you enjoy it. I got my copy off Amazon for like 6 bucks from one of the private sellers brand new. I played a little of it and so far its pretty good. You could look into trying the demo for Drakensang. If you liked Dragon Age there's Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights, Neverwinter Nights 2.
I am trying Fallout 2 out for the first time currently with the restoration mod...seems ok, VERY different compared to Fallout 3 :P I am going to Taiwain for a month soon so I will probably give it a proper crack during that. You could look into trying the demo for Drakensang. What is this restoration mod? If it has anything to do with better graphics then I might jump on board and try out Fallout 2. Taiwan huh? Awesome! You could look into trying the demo for Drakensang. From the research I have done it is the mod that FIXES the game. It fixes hundreds of bugs that were left in the game upon release it allows you to use modern monitor resolutions (1440x900 for me) also I think it adds a few new areas and characters to the game to make it bigger. You could look into trying the demo for Drakensang. You should really try Fallout 2 as someone sugested a little earlier, if you don't like it or you need something else, try these games:
System Shock 2
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (both games are awesome)
Arx Fatalis
Nox
Final Fantasy VII & VIII
The Temple of The Elemental Evil
Anachronox
