Currently looking at the Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB Super Overclock, because of the lower noise levels. Any other suggestions? My preference is a relatively quiet video card around the $200 price range (give or take $20-$30). My monitor is 1680x1050 resolution and I have a Phenom X3 720 at 3.2Ghz. I don't mind ATI or Nvidia.

The GTX 460 Would be a great choice. You might also want to look at the ATi 6850

I have a GTX 460 1GB, so of course I'm partial to them.. but the AMD 6850 is a hell of a card as well. They perform about like a stock 460, but go for $180. Low power consumption too. Only 1 6-pin power connector required.

it depends. if you would ever want to upgrade to a dual gpu setup later down the road (all 3 gpus have long lives ahead of them), get a 460, 6850 or 6870 (depending on your mobo compatibility) and sli/crossfire it whenever you feel the need. but if you want to stray from that clear upgrade path, go with any of em. its really up to you at that point. the 460 and 6870 both exchange licks at each other, with the 6850 having a slight OC'ing advantage.

the 6870 is also in fact 20-30 dollars more than the 460. and the 6850 is cheaper than the 460 in many instances.. if that makes much of a difference.

Yeah, 6850 or 460. Since you want something quiet, compare the noise levels and go from there.

The 460 overclocks better than the 6850 from what I know, though.
