If you let yourself try something besides haunted houses, you should try Dead Space. It is survival horror be definition. And don't worry, it's not like Doom 3. It's more like Resident Evil, in space. It's a challenging game, the ammo and health you have to use conservatively. And it has some good frights.
I recommend you take a look at Silent Hill 3. I believe it is on PC. A great Survival-Horror game. :)
lol, as I mentioned in my first post "just to let you know I've already played Silent Hill's, Obscure, Call of Cthulu and anything that has an xbox or psx version" :pI recommend you take a look at Silent Hill 3. I believe it is on PC. A great Survival-Horror game. :)

Condemned: Criminal Origins. At first it seems like a basic action game, but it's eviroments and just sheer scariness is what makes it a real survival horror.
I support this and they who mentioned Dead Space. Also, maybe The Suffering would be to your liking.Condemned: Criminal Origins. At first it seems like a basic action game, but it's eviroments and just sheer scariness is what makes it a real survival horror.

Dead Space and Condemned: Criminal Origins. I wouldn't go for Cryostasis, It's boring and unoptimized but thats my opinion..
Yeah, Iv also been trying to find a "real" scary game for ages. Nothing seems to be like it used too. I loved RE before it became just people possesed more then zombies. Silent hill used to be great too, but from what I read about 5, its taking the same route as RE did. I really cant think of anything I could sujest for you. I know this isnt really a scary game, but have you tried vampire bloodlines? That had a "spooky" theme and was alot of fun.
Yeah, surely some developers still want to make these style games :( [QUOTE="nutcrackr"] even though dead space is a great game i don't recommend it seeing as though it fits in the doom 3 category. Thank you. :) lol not many people seem to know what I mean. As for Penumbra, I'm going to be trying that soon. The Siren series looks amazing, but it's only on PS2/3 :( Thanks for all your posts, more suggestions welcome lol :)Yeah, Iv also been trying to find a "real" scary game for ages. [QUOTE="jenna12x"]From what I've been reading, some people liken what I'm actually after to "Japanese-style survival horror" (for lack of a better term)... Rituals, weird things and story, not just Halo with the lights turned off. (Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, Parasite Eve are all obviously Japanese, and AitD4 (not Japanese) can be closely compared with some of their aspects.)
Fatal Frame, I thought that was one of the scariest games I have ever played. That game literally had me on the edge of my seat constantly monitoring everything around me as I was playing it. I wish they would make a sequel to it.

the fatal frame series (project zero in england) was the most underated series ever. from start to finish its end of your seat stuff. Haunting Ground on PS2 was also good IMO. never did actually finish that, might have to dig out my PS2 lol
Since you listed some Console games.... Have you tried the Fatal Frame series? (Oh... it's already been mentioned...) You can buy 2 & 3 sealed from GameQuest direct. http://www.gamequestdirect.com/fatalframeflash.html(hmm; or you could... seems that FaFr 3 is out of stock....)
Siren is a hard game to recommend. You have to tolerate the first3 missions to see what's there, and even then.... it takes a lot of dedictation to get into. Most just give up after the first few missions and deem the game unplayable. Mainly, due to the first few mission taking place in complete darkness, with the first taking place on an extremely small map pitting you against a gun weilding zombie, and witha next mission pitting you against a sniperized zombie... then you have a tutoral mission where you don't even know where you're going (cause it's pitched black)and very limited understanding of what you're doing. But if you can get thru those... the game opens up a bit, afterwards. (Mainly, since you finally get to experience some daylight missions...)
Haunting Ground was pretty good, I thought... but it's not scary... just a good concept with no load times.Hard game to find, though....
There is one called Kuon.... but it's not really scary. Heh.. even the gameplay is clunky. But it might be worth playing, anyway.... if you can actually find a copy. Gameplay was better then 'Rule of Rose', regardless, though.... Can't really recommend 'Rule of Rose', but it too is a pretty hard find.... And was banned in England (if I remember correctly; which is pretty odd, considering the VA is very British). Not so much scary, though... just demented. Had a real good story, though. Gameplay however was beyond horrid.
All the others have already been mentioned.... I can name off a few Dark games for the PC, but not really any scary ones. Dark game like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.... Fallout 3, Alice, and such.
edit...jeez I hate this forum,with it's spacing glitch...
