So I've been into PC gaming since around '95. I'm 21 now and frankly I'm growing tired of it. It seems like nothing really new is coming out. I really enjoy the entire concept of MMO, but I hate the repetitive grind that every single mmorpg consists of. I started off with UO, then took a siesta from MMO's until WoW came out. I eventually grew to hate the game after realizing how much of a robot it turns you into. So I just picked up Vanguard recently in hope of rekindling that MMO love, but after about 2 weeks of that I realized that it's not that different from WoW. Sure it's got diplomacy and all this new/different stuff going on, but it's still the same repetitive grind, and I just can't stand it anymore

Now to my point, I'm asking you guys to recommend some new games for me. MMO's, FPS, RPG all goes, but I can't stand single-player and I can't stand RTS. The single-player simply because I know that I'm not really changing anything, once I finish the game, that's it, and I love playing with other people. RTS... I don't know, I just don't like them. I tried the Total War series and Civlizations IV, but they just can't hold my interest for some reason. Thanks in advance for any recommendations you guys might make.

I've gotten a lot of enjoyment from the Battlefield series, BF2 in particular. The multiplayer is solid, you sometimes play with over 40-50 people, its fast paced, the graphics are decent and the vehicles are fun. One of my favorite multiplayer games was Tribes (the original one), but that series seriously degraded with the newer versions. I've never been a fan of the Wow type games, so I may try one just to see what its like. I prefer to shoot stuff though, so I don't know about that...

Guild Wars is a good rpg to play, has a single player side to it as well as pvp.

If ur looking for a shooter then try out F.E.A.R Combat, takes some getting used to but is fun as hell and is free!

Tried BF2, it's fun, but there's something about it that's lacking.  I think it's the lack of persistance. Tried GW, it gets boring after a while due to lack of real endgame. I played the second one (can't remember the name) and it seemed like the only endgame was the little pvp, or one of the few endgame dungeons. For some reason I found the endgame simply lacking (personal opinion, yes I understand how people can see it as a great game, but just not for me). I'm currently playing Fear:Combat, but much like BF2, the lack of a persistant world is kind of bleh. Sorry I'm being awefully picky, but I guess I'm just looking for that perfect game. I don't even think it's out there at the moment =(. Please keep the suggestions coming though, might strike gold after a few attempts.

I'm also playing Tribes: Vengeance, it's ok, but again I only play it once in a while to fend off severe boredom.

I'm 27 and enjoying Dark Messiah right now, and even though it has issues and is slow to level Vanguard has a lot of potential.

I never said Vanguard doesn't have a lot of potential, but I think I've just burnt out on the entire grind level 1-50 type games. Warhammer Online and Darkfall are looking might good right now, but it's still a while before they're released ;_;

I've figured out what I'm looking for. Something along the lines of Diablo II, where you could play single-player, but go and do dungeons kind of co-op. I would actually like something that had a slightly larger mmo-type component, but not sure just how much. Anyone know something new along these lines? NWN II maybe? Not sure how big multiplayer is in that game.

Although it's P2P, isn't Hellgate:London the game Diablo fans have been waiting for? Single player offline, and you can hop online to what I believe is a persistant world...and instead of the fantasy sword/elven setting, it's more or less aliens with big guns, and you with (hopefully) bigger guns.

EQII Echoes of Faydwer retail... contains all the expansions plus original EQ II. It's the best MMORPG on the market in my opinion. Light-hearted at parts, serious in others, the quests are really interesting and the game is very immersive. I wish I still had the time to play it. For multiplayer FPS, I find DoD:Source and CS:Source take up most of my time. The other games I'm playing are all RTS, so I can't offer any suggestions beyond that :)

of course all the cs games, then theres the warhammer games, and starcraft, the greatest rts of all time, the total war games are fun, then you have dark messiah of might and magic, stalker is out soon, warrock is free but to obtain extra weapons and all that, you need to pay 30$for retail version, battlefield 2142 is fun, almost like a bf2 mod, half life 2 is one of the best fps you can get, then halo combat evolved is the best fps, supreme commander comes out feb. 20, it looks amazing, c&c tiberium wars looks good too. oblivion has nights of the nine expansion, it adds a good bit of content, then the shivering isles comes out soon (another oblivion expansion). FEAR is a good game, as is quake. hope you dont turn to the dark side, or consoles if you want to swear!

yeah, i'm looking forward to hellgate: london, but it's so far away! i'm actually thinking of pre-ordering it right now even though it is a couple months until release. i hate single-player because whatever i do has no meaning. once the game is over, that's it. that's why i really like mmo's. fps is ok, but still not my favorite, and i just plain don't like rts, so don't even bother. i agree with the UO comment, but i'm not sure if it's because it was the first mmo that i ever played or if it actually was the best.

Yes hellgate will be a persistant world, they are also adding a fairly complex crafting system which should be nice. Make sure you understand it is primarily a action rpg.
