Let's try to keep everything on an even keel here, everyone. No one likes it when they're unable to play a game they've looked forward to for days. I'm not exactly happy about this either, but it's not permanent. The game servers will be back online sooner or later. There's no reason to mock the ones who miss their game, anymore than there is a reason to exaggerate the fact that it's hardly a life-or-death situation to lose access to an MMO for a few hours.
I have no idea. I'm just another player... I'm just assuming that Turbine are smart enough to know that the longer the servers are down, the more money they lose. The game will be back up as soon as they can make it happen. It's just that with large servers like this, it's not just a matter of doing a reboot and everything is back to normal. When they finally do go down, it's a big enough problem that it takes time to solve it. Any server tech could tell you that.
EDIT:
They have an error message up now. "The site is down for scheduled maintenance and will be back shortly. Thank you for your patience." This is good news. Maybe if I'm lucky, they'll be back up by the time the Laker game is over? :D
Unscrupulous to say it is "scheduled maintenance" when clearly it was unplanned for. Why not simply say, "Our servers have crashed, we are in the process of fixing them, and apologize for the inconvenience." The truth always wins.

Well actually I've subscribed for ten dollars a month. It's a pittance really but I would like to be able to access a service that I have payed for when I have the time to do so. That's annoying. How much does nintendo charge you to play mario brother's every month? Heh, i'm at 15 dollars a month, and want my money back. I opted for the deal where I got 3 monthes for $30, might've been a temporary deal or something.
Anyone notice that when you do pull the site up the date listed at the bottom is January 31st? I wonder if that's a mistake or if that's when the servers will be back up.

I just watched Dragon Ball episode one in Japanese with subtitles. Little son Goku meets Bulma. Awesomist Anime eva! But I would of preferred lotro...sigh
Here is hoping we get some sort of compensation. I have to go to work in about an hour, right when servers go back online and i've wasted my day waiting for lotro to come back online. I won't get these 7 hours back... i would expect some turbine points, specially for the people paying monthly....

troll topic? 95% of the posters are new accounts. Some having troll names like LOTRODOWNOMG. My guess is some idiots on another forum were bored because they cant do anything else except play LOTRO so this is the best thing they could think to do?

Wow thanks for the hospitality and concisely bringing forth clearly the most reasonable explanation for what is going. Sure the facts point to an entire community of gamers being cut-off and looking for answers, but any moron can see we are some sort of lame and unradical fourchan style entity here to disturb you and mock your post counts. And they're the trolls, all looking for answers and wanting to play something they've paid for. The websites are back up, the game is supposed to let you log back in, but you might still see issues. Everyone, please keep the troll-baiting to a minimum. Since I'm posting in this thread, it's impossible for me to pretend I didn't see any ToU violations, and I really don't want to have to start moderating people over what really isn't a big deal. Losing access to an MMO should not be something that sends anyone into an frenzy.
Ah but if you're replacing crack with mmo's thats not so bad, it's all about perspective. To the mod: Then my post was simply to sarcastic then and you were forced to delete it? I believe I was being quite civil in response to what was really a mean-spirited reply, but then his post count is higher than mine and therefore his position more righteous.
