hey guys,

ijjust got ac3 on pc and while it's agreat game, i feel it isn;t quite optimized for pc. i gave an intel i3 core @3.2 GHz and an OC gtx 660. and yet, when i run the game on lowest settings i get about 50 fps in the city and frontier. running on very high goes down to 15 fps at times. i see no reason why a gtx 660 shouldn't be able to run tis game on very high settings with high fps count. anyone else having this problem?

I've a 670 and it ran perfectly fine at 60 frames maxed out everywhere except Boston, it goes down a little there, no idea what might be wrong, did you patch it up?

Yep, you shouldn't have any problems with that PC, the last Nvidia driver made AC 3 run a little better, install it if you haven't already.

Everyone has FPS problems in Boston, it was the same on the consoles. The new iteration of the Anvil engine is clearly unoptimised.

Your CPU is probably bottlenecking your GPU. An i3 seems pretty weak to be paired with a 660. It's only dual-core, isn't it? Some games rely heavily on the CPU. Like GTA4, for instance. I've got a dual core i5 in my laptop and, thanks to that, I don't get any more than 22-27 fps in GTA4, at any settings. My video card handles it well enough, as evidenced by the fact that my performance doesn't get any worse going from low/medium to high settings. Just runs like crap no matter what, because of the non-graphical stuff going on, which my CPU just can't handle.

Yeah it's the CPU since this game looks like it relies on CPU a lot (or just not optimized enough for GPU yet).

I have a Q6600 with a GTX470 and barely playable, yet at work the same video card with an i7 the game works perfect.

I'm waiting for them to patch it up and see if it helps.

It's one of the worst optimized pc games ive ever seen. I sometimes hit 25 fps while in Boston, and yet when I play a game like far cry 3 maxed out except post processing I have a solid frame rate at 45 through the entire game. It's weird because both games are made by ubisoft montreal and yet AC3 is just awful.

^ Far Cry 3 is using a heavily modified Dunia Engine. The Cry Engine was used as a base for the Dunia Engine when they developed it.

Boston is just very demanding. A lot going on there. Tons of NPC's. Lots of birds, namely seagulls flying around lol. Aside from Boston, AC3 ran pretty well. Above 50fps all the time. I've come to expect, to not expect 60fps without a hitch with AC games. At least we got a good PC port and I'm happy for that.

I had the exact same problems, had a phemon II 955 at 3.6GHz and a 670, switched to an i5 3570k and now it's smooth as butter totally maxed out at constant 60 fps. Definitely the CPU

i doubt it's the CPU because it isn't maxed out during play... besides' i run other demanding games like the witcher 2 and crysis 2 without a hitch...

My PC is 5 years old and I can run Crysis 2 and W2 nearly maxed. Its the CPU until they optimize the engine.

I'm speaking from first hand experience and all the computer hardware forum guys here told me it wasn't the CPU that was the problem, I got a new one and all the problems are gone. My CPU and GPU were being used fairly well in games but the new CPU really opened up everything and let the whole system breathe. Now I have no bottlenecks anywhere and every game including AC III runs flawlessly

Also it's definitely the CPU in AC III because that renders all the NPCs you see and calculates their AI pathing. Much like every other game,. That's also why planetside 2 is a mess right now. Any game that has a lot of characters to render on screen will suffer from a poor CPU

Exactly. Just wait and hope that future patches will optimize it. Same thing happened with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. A mess of optimization at launch (unplayable for me). 5 Patches later and it runs silky smooth.

The game runs like poop. Like the previous games, Assassin's Creed will only use two cores. So it doesn't matter if you have a quad-core CPU, it will only use two cores. So whenever, there is a lot of AI or w/e, the frames drop because there is an artificial bottleneck on the CPU.
