Here is my dilema. After I graduate, I will be getting a laptop. I will only really need two things for it which is school work and games. I want to be playing the battlefield games, but Im not sure about the compatibility. Are any of you guys able to help me find out which path to take? Here, I will copy and paste the game requirements for the ones I should be wanting. The only battlefield that I saw that was available to mac was battlefield 2, but I talked to a guy at best buy and he told me that there is a program called "boot camp" that allows you to play PC games on your Mac. Anyways, this is what I need to find out before I go and buy anything.
Macs if you want games if you get a mac for games you'll regret it big time. But on the other hand Macs are overpriced but really thin and light. But i would go for a PC Laptop for any games..
if you are going to get a mac and want to play games you are going to have to pay a minimum of $2000 for a macbook pro because that is the only mac laptop that has a video card in it. (9600 gt) you can get a pc with a 9800 gts (way way better) for about 1300. which is really good for gaming.
ok. Well my budget is a bout $1,000 but I might be able to get a little more. All I will need is it to run nice and smooth with these games in it. What kind of PC would I then be looking at?
forget gaming on laptops not worth it. they are really expensive if they have a half decent gpu, get burning hot while gaming and last 2 hours max more like 1 hour gaming. Get a desktop pc and a netbook for your mobile school work. It will cost less than a gaming level laptop, plus games will run much better on a desktop.
Ok... so here I found something that might work and you guys tell me what you think Alienware m15x If so, then the question is... can I do school work on an alienware computer?
What I did was build the comp in my sig for games, then bought the cheapest laptop I could find for school work. Ended up getting a acer aspire for $399 does everything I need it to do, runs MS office, Matlab, Mathcad, and plays DVD's. Then for anything else like gaming or video encoding there is the desktop.
The thing is, by getting a 600$ computer and a 300$ netbook (maybe an eeepc), you'd be able to do ALOT more MUCH better than with a 1000$ laptop, hell, better than any laptop you can find.
I like the Mac portables. If your bankroll can handle it, get a gaming desktop and pick up a Mac laptop, maybe even a used one to save some money; however, with that budget, if you're into gaming, a Macbook would prob not be your best bet. Grab yourself a desktop or PC laptop and call it a day.

Whats not serious about it? It can handle all games, and all i need to do is buy a mouse, and a joystick and ill be good to go. I dont see whats not serious about it.
laptops do trail desktops in gaming. But a well configured laptop can handle new games quite well. And older games a some laptops will tear through. Now my desktop will max any game with ease with the exception of Crysis which I play very high at 25-30 FPS. Honestly my desktop is complete over kill for at least 90% of games at 1680x1050 rez. A well configured lap top will do fine for the not so hardcore gamer. If a laptop is a must.
