I have been playing the PC version and I am happy to report that it is solid and runs extremely well. I am able to run the game at max settings 1440p (no AA) and I have not dipped below 110 fps. No stuttering or any issues. The game is extremely polished. Animations are excellent and the game has a lot of character. Lots of little details like kicking up sand when walking or animated footprint textures in the sand. I am actually having a lot of fun with the game. If you are on the fence on this one, I encourage you to pick it up as it is really cheap on sites like Kinguin which I got it for $26 CAD. Looks like WB can actually release a game that is not broken.

Just a couple of things in regards to the actual gameplay...

The car combat and explosions are great. The melee combat is similar to the Arkham games, but with more impactful blows. It is pretty brutal and gritty. So far the pacing is very good. Things may get repetitive later in the game, but is very fun so far and does a great job of establishing the setting. Also, there seems to be a lot of progression and customization in the game for those who like that stuff.

What I still don't get is that I saw the remains of the Golden Gate Bridge in the gameplay videos.

Mad Max was always set in Australia.....

It's really interesting that sites like Gamespot and Polygon give it poor reviews but if you look at the user reviews on Steam, it's "Overwhelmingly Positive". I haven't seen such disparity in opinions b/w the users and a gaming site in awhile.

It is strange...something is def up. I think Polygon's review is a bit biased with some SJW crap, though they both seem to agree the game is repetitive. I only played this morning for around 5 minutes prior to work so I can't give any impressions yet, but from what I've seen so far is really good. The production values are great, optimization fantastic, and it's a great looking game as well. Obviously I will need to play a ton more though before I can say if the game is good or not. That being said, from what I have seen/played I'm having a hard time believing the game is that poor.

SJW?

Yeah, 2 common complaints is the repetitiveness of the mission and the dumbed-down button smashing. As soon as the videos mentioned Batman-like combat, I became hesitant about buying the game because I bought Batman Arkham Origins and the button smashing was too much for me.

Still though, I'd consider buying this and adding it to the library when it hits $20 within a year.

Certainly looking to pick this up. 97% average review on Steam sounds enticing... Or maybe I'll just wait for Just Cause 3 because that's likely where's the devs are putting their real effort.

After all, according to Gamespot "Logical inconsistencies pull you out of the world and story"....As if any game out there has perfect logic lol... Peter Brown was really taking the piss it looks like

Yeah I don't know how much I care for "logical inconsistencies". For example, the quibble that you're stashing away chunks of metal in your pocket seemed outright obnoxious to me. It's something that's been logically inconsistent since the first LoZ game, yet now it's suddenly an issue? Seriously...

On the other had, the damage cars do to you did seem silly. Perhaps more damage would've made for better on-foot gameplay.

Yeah, I LOLed at that one because it seemed that he picked a fine time to nitpick at this inconsistency when virtually every game allows us to stash tons of weapons, extra clothing, a car, and hundreds of potions in our backpack.

Yea I got the game pre-loaded but no damn time to play it, probably wont be able to get into it until next week. MGS V is just going to have to wait patiently for some time in the future, perhaps October.

Good to know the PC version is solid, look forward to giving this a try. I've enjoyed everything Avalanche has done in the last while so I expect this will also be good fun

I trust user reviews more then what big name companies say. Not going to lie i was leaning towards not getting the game after reading some reviews. But many positive reviews from users. Thanks man. I hope its well optimized

It's definitely well optimized. Part of it is due to the world itself. It is a desert wasteland. There is no crazy foliage to render or anything that would bog down the game. That being said, the game does look good and there are various elements scattered around the world to keep it interesting. I personally am having more fun with this game than I did with Far Cry 4. It certainly runs a lot better too. I found FC4 boring and pointless. Mad Max does a great job of making the most of the setting and integrating the gameplay around it. You get a good sense of survival and appreciation for the precious resources that are left in the post-apocalyptic world.

That is good to hear, I was also bored by FarCry 4 for whatever reason (which is odd because I enjoyed FC3 a good deal).

Just Cause 2 is stupidly well optimized so its likely the devs are just good at it. Bodes well for Just Cause 3.

That was my thoughts exactly. Anyways Mad Max is only $12 on Kinguin so maybe. Might pick it up after I get tired of MGS V.

Well, it's definitely nog jungle with the game needing to render plants and trees.

But you do see a lot of rocks, debris, dirt on the ground. So the game does have some 'foliage' to render :p

I really like small details like how the sand moves when you walk through it.

Got a chance to play the first hour last night, really impressed with how the game looks and runs. I'm guessing this runs on the same engine as JC3, bodes well for how that game will run.

Too soon to talk about the game itself, the melee combat def isn't up to snuff with Batman/Shadow of Mordor but its not terrible so far. Maybe on the level of Sleeping Dogs.

The game's capture mode is pretty cool. I made this wallpaper with it. Please excuse the resolution and compression. The original image I uploaded is 1440p.

Steam reviews aren't reflections of the quality of the game, but rather a combination of first impressions + how good the port is. It's why you see very high praise for average games that are ported extremely well, but poor reviews for above average games that aren't fully featured ports.

Anyway, to add to what the TC was saying: I get 70-80fps on 1440, maxed out (no AA. Seems to only be cheap FXAA in any case) on an FX8350/GTX 970 combo.

Nice, it's on my list to pick up. Seem to have lots of games to play and no time to play them right now though!
