Mafia Greatest Game of ALL Time

Dnuggs, exactly my thoughts too. 8,9 is pretty darn impressive for such an old game. And it bothers me that I have not played a game that a lot of people consider to be the best of all times. I played Half Life for the same reasons and hated it, but at least I played a piece of gaming-history.. I seriously doubt HL would score 8,9 today.

And graphics do not bother me too much as long as the gameplay and story (most important to me) are great.

The story is good...not so much that it is great on it's own...but the developers did such an immense job in the way it is told.  It truly is (was) an epic masterpiece when it came out.

As for the godfather, I dunno, I played it for about an hour, and got bored after the 4th driving mission.  Plus to me, the controls felk very clunky and ackward, not nearly as solid as GTA III.  I still own the game though, so maybe I will re-install and see if I missed a great game.

Dnuggs.. he's probably as old as we are.. considering he stated he played old Apple IIe games.. I personally had an Apple IIc.. but used e's at school. Heck even at my High School they had e's still...while I was playing it out on a 386 :P

But Zelda is classic.. even the N64 versions.. Zelda 2 sucked so bad! Zelda 3 for the SNES kicked royal butt!

I even have the entire Zelda experience on a small little disk for the Gamecube. Along with all my retro Final Fantasy's on PS2/1

The game I loved the most.. hmmm Mafia although good.. just didn't tickle my fansy.. it was too much like GTA3 (which I personally hated) I loved GTA2 though.. lol 

That's a tough one.. to name a "greatest game"... I have to opt for Crusader:No Remorse/Regret ... still play the damn games in DosBox :)

Another would be Wolf3D for kickstarting the whole FPS genre. (another one I still play in spurts)

I really wasn't saying he wasn't old enough to play, just that he had never played it.  He had to look it up to find out info on it and find out the score, then he didn't even realize he displayed the 8.9 score from the Wii version, so i figured he never played the game, which is kind of silly considering he is bashing the game.

But ya, you got some good points.  You know...I even liked Zelda 2 :P  But your right, the 1st and 3rd (A Link to the Past) are WAY better.  Crusader: No Remorse is a fantastic game as well.

Actually wasn't there a game before pong?  Something called "Spacewar"?  I think it was made in the early 60's.  That should be the best hehe.

C'mon man...lighten up.  This topic is about the Greatest game of all time (even though he said mafia).  The thread was just corrected for accuracy, thats all...

He hates fantasy games.. kinda forgot.

But does that mean we have to limit our speech in a public forum to not ruffle basersx's feathers? Sorry, I don't like tippy-toing around people.

One way to resolve this issue in the future is not to post a reply to someone mentioning a fantasy style game.. that way people won't know what buttons to press on ya ;)

You should lighten up or you'll get a heart attack... I respect that you think Mafia is the best game ever (although I strongly disagree), but this topic is not just about Mafia. Dnuggs said this is also about the best game of all times. If I or another person thinks that a game is better than Mafia, we have as much right to mention that game as you have to mention Mafia. So stop being a baby and let people discuss games that are better than your precious "best of all times". No offence...

It had some of the best weapons ever in game (the casings flying everywhere, bulletholes and awesome reloading animations, not to forget the godly Thompson).

The cars are, for me, still the best in any driving game, with a great damage model and very distinctive handling to them.
